That was like a crazy move. It was correct to check him for fair play. You could see his opponent ask him after the game just when exactly in the game did he come up with this strategy especially since MC was already winning (about to make a Q) and then abandoning that. Crazy.

It's what you think it is. It could be that they only do spot checks, but it might be in addition to entry checks. Varies by tournament.
