Can only imagine the pain, he probably thought he waited like 20 minutes when it's only been 2 minutes. Could see him looking at the imaginary board shuffling pieces trying to see what went wrong. To everybody else it's just bad behavior that probably only made his day worse. But I still sympathize, probably guy's worst moment in his career, looks like he clearly wasn't mentally prepared for being the first to lose.

It's so easy to criticize but I think neither player is to blame here. Karjakin got delayed by some reporter as far as I understood, he was clearly excited about the win and I don't think he realized that Magnus is waiting. On the other hand, Magnus' reaction is easy to understand. He probably did not know what Karjakin was doing and he got frustrated and left. It was just an unfortunate event, no need to be so hard on either player.

If you think being angry and frustrated on yourself after losing a game is awfull behavior, when you are rank 1 world, then you have probably never been good at anything, and don't know how it feels to lose when you expect a lot more of yourself. When he is rank 1, he will always play against worse opponent, and after 7 games with draw, this was simple too much for Magnus. But people that never manage to get good at anything find it fun to hate and make fun of those who became champions.

He plays chess for a living and part of his "job and contract' is to be at press conferences not walk off like a cry baby. When we're at work and something pisses us off we don't get to just storm off mad at the world. He should count his blessings...... he gets to do what he loves and makes a lot of money doing it. It's one loss get over it
@magicmurloc6 жыл бұрын
Cory silva It isn't just a "job" to him, it is his passion in life. He has dedicated majority of his life to being the best at chess, and the drive and how much he cares for the game has put him as the single strongest player in the world. If you have ever been very competitive in something to the degree that you have ranked well in it, you would have some understanding for why he wouldn't sit through the press conference. He has chess to think about, not some press conference, that doesn't help him be better at chess.

magicmurloc...... I'm a professional musician, went to school for it and competed well in it.....I do know. Magnus is an incredible talent and I have no problem with him getting pissed off.... lord knows there were times my music stand went flying across the room. But in public, in front of kids, and in front of his sponsors and contracts he needs to control it. Beat up your pillow when you get back to your hotel room if you have to, or take it out on your next opponent
@magicmurloc6 жыл бұрын
cory silva Although I didn't continue to pursue music as a profession past school, I did go to school for it, and I am not aware of any competition within music that is like chess or like any game in general like soccer, basketball etc, competing in a sport and competing in an art is wildly different from all examples I have come across. I don't think that is a comparable field unless there is some unusual competitive setting I am unaware of in the field of music.

To me it was the most exciting match since he's the champion. Karjakin really came close to winning. There was that game later in the match, maybe it was the next one I can't remember, where Karjakin missed a forced repetition and went on to lose the game to tie the score. I like his attitude, he's unapolegetic and I don't see anything wrong about that.

The rules to Chess are simple: 1. It's not all about checkmate. It's about keeping everyone in check, and each player moving as if they were an out of control toddler, and each move has to be based on what other players do. 2. There is no time to think. It's about putting the pieces down as quickly as you can in an attempt to outmaneuver them. That being said, it also needs to be possible to checkmate, so one should never stop thinking. Chess players are a particularly organized lot.
@zackarysemancik54912 жыл бұрын
This is the dumbest thing ever... chess is all about checkmate. I don't care about anything else on the board if I have you checkmated. Also, time is important. Take your time and think. If you don't want to think, play bullet.
