Sitara Devi (8 November 1920 - 25 November 2014) was an eminent Indian dancer of the classical Kathak style of dancing. Rabindranath Tagore described her as Nritya Samragini, meaning the empress of dance, after watching her performance when she was just 16 years old.The epithet continues, and she is still described as the Kathak queen.
She gave performances in several parts of India, and in several other countries, including at the Royal Albert Hall, London in 1967; and at the Carnegie Hall, New York in 1976.
Devi received a number of awards, including
Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1969)
Padma Shree (1973)
Kalidas Samman (1995)
Nritya Nipuna
She refused to accept the Padma Bhushan award, declaring, "it is an insult, not an honor," and as a report from the Press Trust of India quoted her saying: "is this government not aware of my contribution to Kathak? I will not accept any award less than Bharat Ratna."

1986 में देखा था।पटना में। 70 वर्ष की वय बताई थी आप तब। आज 92 की उम्र में आपको परफॉर्म करते देखा तो बस रो ही पड़ा। तब आप के साथ गुदई महाराज ने संगत की थी तबले पर। 🙏❤️🙏

How passionate she is towards dance and the art form. Incredible effort at this age. Bowing my head down to her. Strange some people dislike it. Cannot appreciate what you cannot do then don't criticize.

Incredible performance i got tears in my eyes couldn't understand what was thee connection with this video. I have worked with Ustad Ahmad Hussain Mohd. Hussain sir. And it was a surprise at the end to see them in this video. Thank you for sharing this beautiful clip. I got goosebumps when she said i can't leave dance i will die. This is called dedication and honesty towards work. Salute to her.

I HV heard of great legend of Indian cinema "Sitara Devi" from my mom & grandma & I heard that she taught dancing to most of the film stars too.....!! For the first time I saw her.. What a performance at this age...!! Just incredible...!! I really feel bad that I was not there in her era to watch her live performance. 🙏

Thank you for this wonderful fire of feminine culutere into all nations. I am pleased to listen and watc to this wonderful woman, as I always loved to churn the fire at any dancing on marriage parties on 4 different continents every one was pleased with my natural performance. So it is a heart felt delight to see this eternal dancer I am sure KRishna himself took over when she is performing the living fire and blessings in life for the many to ignite and inspre them!
