Rules might be applicable from 1 October, 2024! Primarily it was July 20, they extended until October 1, 2024.

Hello. Thank you for your video. I found some inconsistences in what you mentioned. One about the dates when it will be implemented which it was already discussed here. The second thing is about the 3-year of residency for a spouse of a Finnish citizen. The current legislation says 4-years, but according to the Finnish government website, I state: "spouses of Finnish citizens, stateless persons and applicants meeting the language proficiency requirement will be extended to five years from the current four.". Therefore, it will be 5-year residency period for someone with a Finnish spouse. I would like to ask you where did you find this information about the 3-year for a spouse of a finnish citizen? I would like to appreciate your time spend on this topic. Kind regards.

22 § Suomen kansalaisen puolison osalta tehtävät poikkeukset Suomen kansalaisen puolisolle voidaan myöntää Suomen kansalaisuus 13 §:n 1 momentin 2 kohdassa säädetyn estämättä, jos: 1) puolisot asuvat ja ovat asuneet yhdessä vähintään kolme vuotta tai kuolleen Suomen kansalaisen puoliso on asunut yhdessä puolisonsa kanssa vähintään kolme vuotta ennen tämän kuolemaa; ja 2) hakijan varsinainen asunto ja koti on ja on ollut Suomessa viimeksi kuluneet viisi vuotta.

If any of the parents have Finnish citizenship, the newborn baby gets Finnish citizenship. Otherwise he or she has to apply to their own nationality.
