Established in 1994, the Palestinian Authority has not lived up to the expectations of ordinary Palestinians. Under the Oslo Accords the Authority was required to govern Gaza and parts of the West Bank as long as an independent state is established. Ever since, Mahmoud Abbas has emerged as undisputed leader representing Palestine, notwithstanding he is the most unpopular among people of Palestine.
