Mahogany consists of four sisters Maureen, Faye, Trina and Helen Fiso from Liverpool, New South Wales. They were born in Auckland, New Zealand and come from a Samoan background. Before X Factor, Maureen and Faye were primary school teachers, Helen worked in retail and Trina was a case manager at NRMA. In early 2010 they were backup singers at one of Guy Sebastian's tours. Mahogany impressed the judges with their performance of "Thank You" by Boyz II Men, and quickly progressed through the next rounds. They cite Destiny's Child and The Jackson Five as their musical influences and Michael Jackson as their musical inspiration.
