OOoooo Goodies! Those aluminum boxes are pretty awesome.

I have been using those SMD storage books for a while now; They work fairly nicely to keep things organized with the hardest part was getting all of the components laid out prior to inserting them. I ended up leaving a number of gaps and empty half pages so I could insert missing values as I obtained them. I use a Dymo label maker with thin tape to label each strip as I insert them. Some strips are easy to get in and out others not so much at least at first, they do seem to stretch out over time. They also make it easy to see what you are running low on...I keep some bulk overstock of the popular values in my old drawer system just in case.

A lot of the components and fancy displays I’ve used over the years were the result of discoveries in mail bag videos.

I bought some Kimtech wipes for cleaning glass and flux on someones recommendation. You could treat the bent probes as a feature. Yeah, that is the way they ought to be.

I first saw Kimtech wipes in a job in 2001. Looks like they can be found on Amazon, I wonder how the cost per square inch compares. A mathematical exercise for later.

I have a bunch of tips, I hope you don't mind! Those clean wipes can take a serious medieval torture with a wire brush!! 😆Good on you to get those. See if you can find Rocket Sockets, they help tighten hardware onto your (potentially nicely painted) enclosures without scratching the surface. And finally, when you drill into those aluminum enclosures, drill slow and apply a lot of pressure. 👍I can't wait to see what you make! 😃

I was going to try to see if I could find some sort of 3-D printer model for those nut sizes but now I know what brand name I can look for as well. I wonder if I might get to use my stepped drill bit to drill the bigger holes on the enclosures I think I saw somebody doing that but I’ll have to learn as I go. I figured by having a total of 10 enclosures with the two different sizes, I should be able to eventually get one working enclosure out of them all. I’m expecting I can use that clearcoat spray that I bought last summer for the waterslide decals as well.

@@GadgetReboot "I wonder if I might get to use my stepped drill bit to drill the bigger holes" Absolutely and extra good on you if you have a drill press (I don't 😆!) I also strive to find the smallest enclosure I can fit the circuit in but in one circumstance I had to go up to the next size enclosure size because the PCB would no longer fit when the pots were installed into it. I have lots of advice on spraying paint too but I honestly learned all this stuff by finding videos here on KZfaq. 😄👍

I don’t have a proper drill press but last year someone gave me one of those makeshift presses that you put an old corded drill in, I haven’t tested it out yet to make sure everything moves smoothly and in a straight line but that would definitely be my approach. Years ago I remember seeing videos about doing swirling paint patterns on a pedal box by putting spray paint in a bucket of water and dipping the pedal in or something like that, I’m not sure if I will even want something like that but there will be lots of research done. Pots are the big concern I have, I either have panel mount ones that I can bolt to the case properly but not the right values or I have the right values but they don’t even have any way to mount other than soldering to a board and no nut fastening option so I’m not sure if I’ll just do some makeshift thing for my first attempt, maybe just aim to get something working at all even if I repurpose the case for a different design.

@@GadgetReboot yeah when it comes to pots there are two kinds --- wired from the board to enclosure mounted pots or one that are soldered to the PCB. If you can fasten the pot to the enclosure then you can pretty much wire any of them up. You can even clip the leads if they are too long. It better of course to have eyelets but you can wrap a wire sufficiently around a lead. But when it comes to PCB mounted pots you really want to get the exact right lead size and lead angle over the resistance value or travel type because it is more important to have a good mechanical connection IMO. I built a pedal for a friend (ex band-mate) but I didn't have the correct travel type for a pot and as such, there was only a tiny zone that was useable. I later ordered the right pots and told him I would replace it. I did and it worked out much better for him. My point is that I think it was better to use a pot that provided a good mechanic connection first and just replace it on down the road when I finally sourced the right part. Cheers!

yeah I was surprised I’m having so much trouble finding the right combination of pot values and tapers and pin mounting and panel mounting stuff when shopping on the main stream places or even AliExpress it’s almost like they’ve never heard of guitar effect potentiometers and every time I see projects in videos they use the kind of pots I want. I think I could get them through smaller distributors if I lived in the US but I haven’t had much luck here so far.
