I started with a 5 gallon with fish but then I moved up to two 20 gallon tanks. Keeping fish and a turtle. It was so much work, and I think I burned myself out. Especially, being a student in college. But I am thinking about getting a 5 gallon tank with one fish and maybe some snail, because I really miss the joy of fish keeping.

@@iisadsloth9727 Bettas don't get stressed in big tanks. They get stressed in open spaces. I kept a betta in a heavily planted 40g breeder community with no problem. As long as the tank is around 3/5 covered with plants, I doubt your betta would get stressed or fin nip

Hello Regis.....a beautiful setup as well as maintenance video.... But I would like to query the following - what is the nutrient you are using for those plants? I saw Seachem Prime but is that all? what about Co2? any liquid dosing you're using? Even during the setup video you didn't use root tabs, so from where exactly are the plants getting nutrients? hope you'll answer and it'll really clear a lot of queries for a newbie like me!!

Doesn't look like CO2 or any plant supplements are being used as well as tap water and Prime. I'm amazed at how well the plants are growing. I have plants in my 28 gal bow front but I've never been able to grow anything large, only ground or small plants have grown so far. I can't even get a Sword to stay alive for very long. I use RO water, keep the ph as close to 7.0 as possible, my water parameters are all good except my kH is always off the charts and I have no clue why. I run a small hang on tank canister filter that uses a sleeve and carbon & added a Seachem Tidal filter so that I could use additional filter media (Purigen, sponge, more carbon & Matrix). I do at least 10-12 gal water changes usually once a month and add Seachem supplements for the fish as well as Flourish, Flourish Trace, Excel and Advantage (all Seachem). Oh, and I my substrate is from Caribsea and formulated for planted aquariums. I have 2 Denison Barbs (too big for the tank now but will go into the 75 gal eventually), 2 long finned red minor tetras, one long finned Rosy Barb, 2 cory cats, one albino algae eater and a snail. I've had aquariums for at least 35 years so I'm no dummy, but when it comes to the technical stuff, I don't understand it. My point is, I have no idea why I don't have success with most plants. Eventually, once I move, I have a brand new 75 gal tank and stand sitting in storage that I can't wait to set up. I also invested in CO2 equipment that I'm hoping will give me more success. Any suggestions for growing the plants or what I might be doing wrong?
