Let me know what you guys thought of the video and the reaction. I do understand that this was not one of my more animated reactions lol. York has far more to offer than was shown and is far more associated with The Vikings than he alluded to. There's the Yorvik Viking Centre, which is an amazing museum, that takes you back in time, to see how The Vikings lived. There's The Shambles, which is a street of shops all housed in medieval buildings and lots of lovely restaurants and shops etc. York is also a good base to travel to the Yorkshire Dales or The North York Moors!

Yes I stayed in York for the weekend back in the 1990's and this brief but pleasant vid did not do it complete justice. The Yorvic Viking centre was relatively new then and very good and even evoked the smells of 10th century Yorvic and i expect it has grown since then. The Cathedral vault was also interesting and they found remains remains that are on show . The Shambles deserved more time and there was more. We did not have time to see the Railroad museum or the others but I think we did go to the Castle museum ? Anyway there was enough to do for at least a week so I understand a couple of days is not enough to see all the sights......Bath is lovely as well.....

Yorvick actually sucks and The Shambles has been turned into a Harry-Potter themed hellhole visited only by Chinese people dressed like characters from a low-budget RPG.

The yorvik museum is woke garbage now. Claiming there were black Vikings living in Norway and Iceland etc No actual evidence. Just their claim to appease the new woke crowd. Absolute embaressing rewriting of real history

It always amazes me that the majority of Americans who visit England only come to London. There's so, so much more to us than the capital, It makes me happy that you appreciate this. London is so overrated by foreigners, it wouldn't make my top 10 for places to visit in England.

My local city of Chester is a Roman city to see, it is beautiful. You really need to come over to Great Britain and see the sights.

Hi James. The Roman baths are spectacular. in my teens every week. but now nearly 80 years on. last time I went there a couple of years ago. You have got to see it with your own eyes to appreciate the beauty of it. and the architecturel building that it is. the hot spring is off limits. I luv archecture. from 🇬🇧👍 an old cockney gal

Hi James, last year (22) Innocent Americans (Ethan and Angela) came to the UK, they spent some time in York, the videos they posted are really good and give a good idea of York from a tourist perspective that doesn't break the bank, both Bath and York are in many ways better than London, cheaper for a start and with more grounded history that is available/livable/usable to us today, something that most people don't tell you is to wear sturdy shoes/boots, you can easily twist or break an ankle on the cobbled streets. The city walls around York are free to walk along and encircle the city, York isn't a big place but there is plenty to see and do both old and modern, feel free to ask if you need more information, I live less than 30 minutes from York so I'm very familiar with the place.

I actually prefer Lincoln. Reminds me of York but cheaper. And the cathedral is amazing. You should check it out. It was the tallest building in the world for centuries and is bigger than Notre Dame

I have visited Bath a number of years ago I looked round the Roman Baths. I have visited York lots of times over the years it is an hour away from Grimsby where I live. I have visited The National Railway Museum (I have stood on the footplate of The Mallard my dad’s boyhood dream), I have walked on the city walls, walked around the city, taken a boat trip, visited the military museum and The Elvington Air Museum at the former RAF Elvington, Guy Fawkes Gunpowder Plot explosive expert was born in York.

Loved your reaction thanks. Please check out Chester it's amazing with roman walls which are complete and you can walk around, you can't help but trip over all the roman stuff. The Rows are 4 streets of double level shops all medieval amazing. The cathedral is huge and interesting. There is so much more I know you will love it and reactions are rare.

I love York,I am back this Sunday It’s a vibrant beautiful City I was captivated by the Mallard on my last visit And you can walk the entire city on the walls About a third the way around one gets a beautiful image of the Minster

James. That was a great video. Never went to York. but it's on my bucket list. Just for the trains. I remember the trains when I was little. Such a sight to see. When the trains no longer I cryed. It's a real shame. but thankfully some have been restored thanks to railway lovers. from 🇬🇧👍 an old cockney gal

I`ve been to the city of Bath only once - alas. I`ve lost count of the number of times I`ve been to York. I love this chap`s reactions to these places. he does make me laugh. It`s sad to think that cities such as these will probably never be built again. The Age of the Great Cathedrals is over !

The Georgian period was mainly when we invited the Elector of Hannover to take the British throne, we had a sucession of King George's. They inspired more European style of architecture. The kings were also the forerunners to our current monarchy as well. He is travelling first class on the train. If you book in advance, the fares can be quite reasonable. The Vikings brought the Danelaw with them, and the Danelaw survives mainly in the names of places ending with "ham", or "ley". A large swarthe of north and eastern england were ruled under the danelaw.

The ending "ham" is Anglo Saxon. It means village and is usually joined with the name of the founder. For example Bramham, Bram's village. We also get hamlet from it. Wick is another ending. Viking village names end with "by, thorpe, thwaite, Toft, tofts and kirk".

when i was 12 i went to york, yes the minster too.........much more awesome being inside. but my bro found out i was going on a school trip to york. when u think you don't know your bro. then you really don't , he demanded i could not go to york without him, he was 15. yeah we went saw and was amazed. the train museum is awesome, heck that was 60 yrs ago. i grew up in nottingham , lots of history too. but when i was 13 i talked my parents into migrating to australia. my bro was staying in the uk. but then decided to come. so a long story short my bro served in the australian army with reamae. look it up. he parked an apc with a big gun on it in front of our house. water went under the bridge , never served in the army missing the draft. in oz at the time national service or natios. so at 35 i felt i needed to give back. so i spent 15yrs in the nsw police. bad , terrible , good, confusing, u can never ever work out life , at best just live it.

I am a Bathonian. The vid was good showing some highlights but of course you need to be here to see everything on offer! A few miles out of Bath there are some other great places to visit such as Longleat House (home of Lord Bath and famous for its Safari Park) plus villages such Lacock and Castle Combe (where the movie Dr. Doolittle was filmed) to name a few. Also places like Glastonbury (not just a farm where the music festival is held!) is around 25 miles and Stonehenge is only 40 miles away. The Roman Baths were closed to bathing in 1978 after a local girl belonging to a swimming club contracted a bug after smimming in the water and died. But it was not something that most people did here at the time anyway , as a kid back then no one I knew had ever swam in it and like me had no intention to. In 2003 the newly constructed Thermae Bath Spa (not shown in the vid) opened a short distance away which allows you to bathe in the water once more, including a spectacular open top roof pool. The naturally heated spa water (from deep undergoround) is treated with a sophisticated monitoring and filtering system so it's very safe. As I've said before, whenever you do visit the UK just take time to enjoy where you visit, don't try and rush it National Lampoon sytle!

Yorks close narrow streets were the inspiration for diagon alley in Harry Potter. York is the best city in Yorkshire.

I know I am being pedantic but conventionally, a railway engine is the power plant and a train is that plus a number of carriages or goods wagons attached to it.

Two notes on Bath. Much of the Roman Bath is a later reconstruction, but up to about 5 feet high is the original. There is also now a beautiful Spa Bath complex , which I gather is great to visit but expensive. They've had to build it separate from the Roman Baths - though I believe it uses the same hot spring - because they can't keep the Roman Baths safe to swim in. I will defend Henry VIII a bit. A terrible dynastic war - now called the Wars of the Roses, but then called the Cousins' War - had riven the country apart, and Henry's father Henry VII had with great difficulty brought peace, partly by marrying the Princess from the other side, Elizabeth of York. There were therefore only a few members of the Royal Family acceptable to everybody. It was therefore absolutely vital that Henry VIII had a son, or civil war would break out again. Therefore Henry VIII sought a divorce when his wife became past child-bearing age, having only had a daughter. Kings were always granted annulments in those days, particularly in this case since the right paperwork hadn't been completed when he married that wife (Catherine of Aragon). ( She was his brother's widow.) But the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, put pressure on the Pope not to grant the annulment, so that he could conquer and marry his son off to Henry's daughter.

Bath and York are classed as small UK cities. The population of Bath is around 100,000 and York 200,000. Ihave lived in York for around 40 years and have always found it friendly. There are lots of attractions in the city as well, as some in the surrounding area, such as Elvington Airfield Museum or the bus trip to Whitby by Double Decker Bus recently voted the most picturesque bus journey in the Country.

The Georgian buildings were named after the period of time during King George the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th (they reigned between 1714 and 1830). The only bit he partly got wrong.

Interesting to note that the spring at Bath before the Romans arrived was a place of worship by Celtic tribes for a goddess her name was Sulis, The Romans to pacify the local tribe’s adopted her calling the place Aqua Sulis and adopting her as the Godess Minerva to placate the locals as they took over their place of worship to create a bathhouse the Romans often adopted local Gods and Goddeses like this to curry favour with the local population they did the same in Egypt and in other places that they invaded or colonised they were very clever at assimilation, As the Roman Historian Tacitus said of the Britons “ They are happy as slaves without chains” but he didn’t reckon on Boudicca showing them that she certainly wasn’t anyone’s slave with or without chains.

My grandparents lived in Warminster Wiltshire which is about an hour outside of bath, I visited that place most times when we to see my Nan & grandad beautiful city but very different now. The hot baths are lovely though which have minerals in them.

I Live in Derbyshire so I would always Turn North on the M1 motorway, and visit all the Northern cities, York I especially like, its a beautiful little city so much history, Roman, Viking and Medieval.

Bath and York are well worthwhile places to visit if you are ever in the UK, we revisited Bath last year, it was lovely- but fair warning it is VERY expensive, York is also.

Morris dancing , is from the 13 century and is thought to come from Moorish dancing brought back to Britain from the crusades. Not shown here is dancing, fighting with cudgels in a mock battle . Said to from Moors dancing with swords .

I was born in Bath and grew up in a small town near by. We went to visit the roman baths for a school trip. The reason for Bath’s hot springs is that the city sits in the mouth of a long-dormant volcano. The caldera that formed the city has been extinct for many millennia, but the thermal heat still makes for a nice, relaxing dip in the springs.

Hi! When you look at the ancient streets of York you see the overhanging levels of the buildings, this isn’t crazy as there could be at least two reasons for this 1. The house can build out wider as it goes up Or 2. Down the centre of the streets is the sewer which is basically a small stream down the streets to the river, the overhang is so that that the chamber pots (under bed toilet pots or more popularly the go-sunder) can be emptied into the street runnels without splashing on peoples heads. Choose the one which is more acceptable. Cheers Aah kid!!!

You need to bear in mind that Bath and York are a long way from each other and to visit both you could do as part of a wider tour. If you like Roman Britain Hadrian's Wall is a must.

Morris dancer's have 🔔 bells on legs because when you were publicly hanged the played bells on one leg so when you hanging your legs move a lot entertaining the crowd if you had money you'd pay someone to pull you leg to make death quicker hence the saying pull this one the overones got bells on your joking (chocking)

Visit Kent for really nice Castles (Dover Castle, Leeds Castle, Hever Castle, Rochester Castle, Deal Castle, etc.) If you want Castle ruins, visit Ireland, over 30,000 Castles to choose from.

I lived on a canal boat for 2½ years. If my surcomstances didn't change I'd still be on one now. And if you ever get the chance to go on a house boat. do it if you don't you'll regret it. The stearings a bit weird. If you stear left the boat will go right and vise a versa.Thats the only thing I didn't like about it. apart from that it's a wonderful experience. If I had the chance to do it again. I would jump at the chance. and along the way the people you meet are friendly they will help you out when in difficulty and you see beautful country side on your journey. from 🇬🇧👍 an old cockney gal

Love your presentations & your enthusiasm for the UK. Bath & York are beautiful cities but there other towns/cities just as beautiful. For example, Chester. York has Roman walls but they are not complete. Chester’s Roman walls are. Also Chester was originally going to be the Roman capital of Roman Britain. Complete with amphitheater and hypocaust (Roman underfloor heating) remains. The city itself has the Rows, the only two tiered shopping streets known to exist. Very Tudor. It is the gateway to stunning North Wales and Snowdonia. Plenty where this comes from 👍

I take offence to the term Narcissism being put next to Bath, narcissism is delusional Bath is factually beautiful, it’s truth not narcissism. When people from the UK say where they are from they normally follow it up with words like “it’s a right dump” “Bristol it’s a bit of dump”, nobody from Bath has ever said those words, we are proud! We Bathonian’s were not born proud, we realised we were proud when we traveled to other cities and realised what an industrial dump they all are!! And we have Hollywood celebrities, Mr Nicholas Cage owns an actual castle in Bath, Mr Johnny Deep has a residents in Bath and in recent years Mr Dyson the hover man is a Bath boy. Never been to York but I hear it and Edinburgh share many similarities with Bath.. And that Bath Brick that mined in Bath tends to get exported because it’s very rare and expensive, so we actually end up importing this fake Bath Brick that someone somewhere manufactures for us. 95% of the buildings are the real thing it’s only in recent years they’ve imported the fake option. And rather ironically, that warm famous healing water we have, you’re not actually allowed in it anymore, it’s the perfect breeding ground for bacteria apparently, but they do filter some of it into a new inside bathing area at the thermae spa, it’s actually on the roof it’s supposed to be brilliant in the spring or summer evening time. Don’t stay at the Hilton Bath City whatever you do, it’s far from the standard of the city.

Regarding Bath. You can no longer use the baths. A dangerous amoeba was found in the water. So no more bathing allowed these days.

Life should be for exploring and enjoying yourself!!! Great Britain is very beautiful, Cornwall is awesome if you need a base your welcome
