I’d love to see you do an episode on residential elevators. I’m not a home owner yet but that’s one feature I would like because most people want to be able to grow old in their own home. Also some people with chronic diseases have mobility issues too. Even if I only have the elevator shaft, I know I could install one later if I want but I know there are a lot of considerations. Most of the houses where an elevator is added after construction, it looks out of place.

Nice system, the adjustable feet need rubber to prevent those hard metal feet from denting your wooden floors. It's nice your attic is a storage space but you need to be strategic in where you place whatever you want to store up there. If anything breaks you are going to be playing Tetris moving boxes or whatever so your mechanics or you can access your systems.

Given the conditioned attic space, what is the advantage of this unit vs putting in the kind of permanent attic staircase that older homes used to have? @@W78thIS my previous home had a 24" wide, quite steep attic staircase tucked into the space of a 6' wide closet. i hope matt is keeping realistic receipts on everything. as in what would a regular person without their own yt channel, buddies, and contracting teams have paid for all this? i can't wait to find out he spent years building a house that cost 3 million which he could actually sell for just over 1 million. it has to be something insane. just absolutely zero return in value for 90+% of the upgrades. i mean what did he lose with just taxes, insurance, and lost rent for however many months alone? we haven't even gotten to the big stuff yet. worst part is it still has all kinds of size/space restraints. everyone's like yeah a real staircase would cost less but it would take up more space! he's already got 3 kids packed into 1 room! still doesn't have 15sqft for stairs on a home with a ridiculous cost level for the neighborhood it sits in.

@@andru451 it's not going to be worth a huge amount more than another house with similar sqft in the same neighborhood. However, the real cost to build on it might be double or more. I'd like to find out if he's keeping track of all that.

@DannySauer 2 жыл бұрын
Some people live in their house and make it for themselves instead of spending all their time worrying if their upgrades will make them a profit. Those people do things to their house that *they* want instead of exclusively doing work for other theoretical future owners. There's a lot of value in enjoying your home. But it takes more kinds of people to make the world go 'round, so others are free to focus only on profit living in essentially someone else's house.
@TripleIllini
@TripleIllini 2 жыл бұрын
@@DannySauer right, he's free to do that and i'm free to laugh at it. especially considering this was originally billed as "a real remodel that could be done on an average american budget". now changed to "real rebuild". buying a house for several hundred thousand dollars sight unseen, tearing it down, rebuilding it in an overly expensive manner yet still having major sqft constraints that causes all kinds of issues. you have 3 kids in one room, claiming that the stairs are seating area for the family room, the "office" being a linen closet tucked under the stairs, the kitchen barely has room to open the fridge. He never fully decided he wanted the big house with all the amenities until too far into the process. so now he's trying to pack it all into this 1970 slab because of bad decisions made years ago at this point.

If you'd staggered the planking to begin with you have enough room there when the hatch swings down to have a staggered 'edge' to the planking covering the hatch so you _could_ have made it _more_ concealed, _maybe_ totally if you did an excellent job, but as it is it's actually pretty obvious imo. Very, very cool but it's obvious it's there and I'm not saying it just for the sake of criticizing it - it's a great job in any case but a burglar would notice it immediately Matt so don't convince yourself otherwise. Who _wouldn't_ run a complete length of planking down that hallway given the rest of the ceiling? Whereas, if it were all staggered then you could use that to your advantage and really blend in that break line.
