@22kingdomheartsfan What if Leon was the one killed by Krauser there? That would be an interesting DLC. Having Luis kinda finish the story instead, but due to him not being trained, it's more of a survival horror DLC where you gotta save ammo, sneak and pick fights carefully.

I think Capcom making Luis a former Umbrella employee is one of the best changes they made to his character. It makes his relationship with Leon more significant and meaningful. This is someone that, unknowing to him, indirectly ruined Leon’s life, both because of his research for Umbrella and his research for Los Illuminados. So in Luis’ final moments, when Leon sets aside those differences and lights Luis’ cigarette for him (with an Umbrella lighter as well), it makes the scene far more impactful. Despite everything, Leon still sees him as a friend.

Luis' death in the remake had me holding back tears, especially with how he still defends Leon in his final moments. Since we don't spend as much time with Luis in the original, his death, whilst still sad, doesn't carry that same emotional weight. It does give us more incentive to take down Saddler, though.

The remake is way more effective, due to Luis getting way more screen time, and partnering up with Leon for much more of the game. His dialogue also conveyed his backstory and redemption arc much more effectively. This is definitely a huge improvement.

The glasses that DO need to come off are the nostalgia glasses. I’ve seen people shit on games just for committing the “sin” of not being the original. It’s like they’re threatened by the idea of potentially getting a remake that improves on their supposedly favorite game. Everywhere I look, there’s a whiny/ contrarian RE fan crying about something. Remake adds so much more too. Ashley's reaction to realizing his death and her saying "For Luis", and them both acknowledging that Luis saved them. Plus, we get the whole backstory of him and his grandfather, and his love of Don Quixote. It just hits so much harder than Leon screaming his name even though Luis had like three scenes in OG lol.

The remake did it way better because it gave Luis actual character. When he died in the original I honestly didn't feel sadness at all because he really didn't feel all that special, the remake gave him more character and that makes him instantly better imo. And the way he died in the remake right when he and leon started to get along made me actually sad, like we were just getting into it and boom he's gone. Really felt that one in the heart.

@@billybro1403 This is where gameplay items and cutscene don't make sense for RE4(include Remake). Atleast in Ethan Winters case, it made sense because he had been afflicted by the fungus which had the same effects on enemy characters.

In the og, Luis sums up his backstory conveniently before he dies. In the remake, his motivations are sprinkled throughout the entire game. I think that’s what makes the remake better.

Makes more sense to me that he got killed like that, original is cool and all but Luis would've died almost instantly by the piercing would and the blunt force trauma after Sadler slammed him, here he lasted alive with a quite deep open knife wound, clearly a perforated lung, during the whole knife fight with Krauser, way more realistic and way more heart wrenching

It's RE... and it's a video game... Luis also isn't trained based on what others have said in the comments; and yet with a huge hole in his back, gasping for air (good breath control is essential for some accurate shots) and had already bled out so much during the fight, he manages a clean shot that blasts Krauser's knife out of his hand mid-attack? Realism is lost here. Not to mention bad actor Jackie K; a TRAINED KILLER, didn't finish Luis off nor made sure he was dead in general. This isn't to try and be mean or whatever. It's just the word realistic in video games is a funny word and I don't believe should be used to describe most things in a certain way. The original is amazing for the time just as this is for this time. Luis worked for Saddler and having Saddler kill him makes more sense to me anyways. However, you and most people are on the mark with one thing for sure, you feel tragic loss harder in this one when Luis dies. Some of the scene was cliche' to me but you could argue that for the old one as well. I just saw his final moments well before it happened because of the set up and everything leading into it. But anyways... it's Resident Evil; nothing makes any real bit of sense. Not even the acting, graphics nor story progression. It's a series where for the longest time all these "trained" characters could only stand in one place and shoot; then they become almost super human in the cutscenes, then become like that in the gameplay in newer games, every enemy or character can be a bullet SPONGE at any given moment depending on when it's needed for the gameplay or the scene. More realistic? Depends a lot on who you are and how you view things. Like it better? For sure. Realism in video games is a silly topic.

@@ryanbecraft2771 right right, realism is a silly label when you think about the bigger picture, a more proper way to describe it is "impactful", my argument was mainly because of people saying how unrealistic and lame this version is compared to the original, not to gush about how real the game looked and felt, it's a way more real way to die than "I was brutally impaled and slammed against a hard cobblestone floor, yet I still took about a minute to bleed out and die so I could talk coherently and give vital information", yes it wouldn't be technically possible for Luis to aim and fire at Krauser's knife, but even if he missed he still would've made Krauser recoil and consider retreating, they just had the shot connect with the blade for dramatic effect like "holy shit Luis is alive and he saved me!", Y'know? Still, I see where you're coming from and I agree that the scene is pretty cliché

I love how much love and now hate this specific game can generate. Lol Re4 definitely is one of the GOAT. And hopefully people talk about this version the way most of us talked about the OG. If RE3 Remake can have a character survive an entire apocalyptic event through ONLY luck, seriously Jill should not have survived the remake, then I think Luis landing a single lucky shot on Krausers knife isn’t all that unrealistic.

As someone who played both games, I must say they did it better in the remake. I felt nothing for Luis in the OG because i just saw him as cheeky guy with a big secret but in the remake i saw him as a cheeky guy with a big secret and a big heart. Loved that❤

After they changed Luis story and gave him such strong plot relevance as the ex Umbrella scientist who worked on Nemesis, i feel like his survival twist adds more interesting scenarios plotwise. Especially now they gave him way less deadly death where other characters survived worse in RE stories, and he died in the castle not in the island where everything blew up, so his survival twist is the easiest to do. Notice Luis passed out and cameback after the stab to save Leon despite his injury, so there can be a twist that he was just in another coma and not dead, or he could be developing some regen sample he was testing on his body which explains the suspicious scars on his left cheek and neck in close ups pics, but he never tried fatal injuries so he said what he believed would be his last words to Leon but in reality he could be just in coma while healing. There are many neat ideas they can do with Luis after they retconned his story: - A scenario where Jill would try to kill him for creating her 1st nightmare Nemesis, and Leon would stop her. - Luis can make samples to help the cast gain speed and power like Wesker but temporarily to beat BOWs, and he got the vaccines to help them go back to normal, it'd be cool to see Leon with Wesker power. - In RE4R notes Luis was planning to trick Ada to keep the plaga sample for himself to control creatures to beat Saddler, so if he survives he'd totally make Nemesis 2.0 he can fully control through the parasite to fight for the good side to help the cast beat BOWs, we get to play as the freaking Nemesis controlled by Luis who would be doing cool stuff with his Red9 next to his giant companion. - Scenario where Luis just turn himself into another Nemesis through successful experiments where he can fully control himself to help the cast beat BOWs, and he can regularly transform between human/monster forms, because of his previous canon experience in developing parasites/viruses he can do literally anything.

In the original Saddler just pops up to kill him and then is like bye my boy will take care of you! Like you are right there why not kill Leon too? There’s several parts like that in og, where dude just pops up out of nowhere to say some lines and then leaves.

@@Igothemunchies Don Quijote is the tale of an ordinary man with the goal of becoming a knight. He names Sancho his squire with the promise of giving him an island and lots of gold. Don Quijote is however deemed crazy, he fights windmills under the illusion of them being giants. He even makes up the goal to rescue Dulcinea (referenced in RE4Remake, Luis calls Ashley like that). Sadly, Quijote also dies before achieving its goals, however, in a way does give everything he promised to Sancho. I read it likes 10 years ago so I can't remember all the details but, there you have it :)

Idk why everyone has a problem with the pronunciation like are you really not getting the point that Leon didn't know Spanish in the OG so him pronouncing it wrong is probably normal cause I would pronounce it the same also the OG one hit harder because even when he screamed Lewis like you're saying it was genuine from the heart of a saddened guy losing a friend but love your SOULLESS version

I just got to the part in the remake where Luis dies and it hurt but I always remember the original death scene to be great, so I came to this video and while RE4OG was my favorite game for a LONG time, the remake does his death and character arc MUCH better. 👏👏 RE4 remake is 10/10

Original didn’t do a bad job if you actually didn’t just run through the story Luis felt like an amigo. But the remake made the whole focus of being more realistic. I do like the outlandish action + subtle goofey way the original presents itself more though feels like a calling card of the resident evil series that’s even present in the movies

People SHOULD REALIZE that Luis was NOT part of Umbrella Corp in the OG lore version. He was just a former cop in Madrid, Spain that was also a researcher or scientist at the same time.

Marvin taught him that helping oneself can lead to helping others, Ada helped him be less gullible, Kendo helped him find reason in the fight, Krauser taught him to be strong, and Luis taught him that your past doesn't make who you are, people can indeed change and to not judge a book by only the cover. Luis in a way was the one that helped him move on from the past and look to what is ahead in the future. It gave him strength to end the mess and he helped Leon take away the parasite from both Ashley and him, ensuring that the future would be brighter. Love the writing in this one, perfectly compliments RE 2 and Makes RE4 fit better into the continuity.

It is by far more hard hitting and impactful in the remake. To me it never felt emotional in the original due to the scene being too overdramatic (and the fact that Leon can’t pronounce Luis’ name correctly certainly doesn’t help). I was also mostly indifferent to Luis in the original since the game never gave me a reason to grow attached to him.
