Took the Makarov and the CZ to the range to compare them. The Mak is the icon and the CZ is a much better shooter.

hello. l live in the former KOMMUNIST BLOCK and now l have in my collection soviet makArov and cz-83 9*18. your mak is not soviet but bulgarian. there were 3 producers of exact soviet copy- east germany, bulgaria and china. the cheh military ammo of that time had bullet 4.5 g. and velocity aprox. 390-400 m/s. it could be used only in poligon profile barrel, and NOT in classic barrel. standard soviet service ammo had bullet 6.1 g. and vel. 315 m/s. modern cheh civilian ammo from S/B 6.1 g. and 305 m/s. we prefere here serbian ammo-6.0 g and 320 m/s. and please, TRY TO REMEMBER- not mAkarov but makArov.

BTW I stripped the bluing off on my Mak because my slide looked like yours and bought some Oxpho blue from Brownells. I cold steel blued the slide it came out really nice.

Love the cold war era surplus pistols. Watch out for cz82/83 mags that are marked MFG cz on the floor plate. They are aftermarket and we're not reliable at all in my 83. The originals have the lion with the crossed swords stamped on them.

Have you found that one magazine drops free and the other doesn’t? I have 6 mags for the two CZ 82s I have and 5 drop free one doesn’t. One is not marked with the crossed swords but I can’t remember if that’s the problem one.

@@gunfzx The crossed swords are a Czech military acceptance mark. Magazines with such a mark are almost guaranteed to be reliable, but magazines without it are not necessarily unreliable.

Original round for cz82 is the vz82 cartridge which have more power, hard steel bullet thats why the cz have pologonal barrel=only military model cz82.

Sorry, I can’t find anything about another cartridge. This was the Soviet domination era so they required the 9x18. And the polygonal barrel cannot use hardcast lead bullets - they require soft jacketed billets generally.

@@gunfzx use translator, at the end of the text is something about the czech 9×18mm 82cartridge which have cca 370-380J and the standart makarov cca 310J. We also have 7.62 tt cartridge with +18%power for the cz52 pistol

Been sorta collecting the 9x18 mak guns since Dad started me off with a P64. I'm up to CZ 82, P64, P83, Imez single stack, and the double version, and FEG PA63 so far. My actual Russian versions are my least accurate, with the rest far outshining them.

@@gunfzx the Imez models have adjustable sights, but spring loaded. I find they bounce in faster fire, making more a pattern, than a punch-out. My others are tack drivers.

I own both, he the makarov is more concealable and better finish but the CZ has a better trigger (at least in double action) and capacity. I have the CZ 82, a Bulgairan Mak, and a Russian IJ-70 Commercial.

All true. Got a Polish P-64? Even more concealable. A PA-63 is about equivalent

Where did you find a Mak for $150 in 2020 ? I paid $225 for mine in 2017. I also paid $200 for my CZ 82 in 2018.

Last October I believe. At a gun show - surprisingly low price. Almost ridiculous.

Silas Newsome - sorry, wrong pistol. The CZ was $150 plus tax and transfer - $190 total with a broken grip from AIM Surplus. The Makarov was a fun show out the door at $150. Both were 2019.

Since I’ve decided to live my 2nd Amendment fantasies through you (😉), I think you’re going to need to find yourself an original 9x19mm Parabellum Tokagypt pistol and take it out to the range to see how it does.

Failure to feed. Tried different ammo and didn’t help. Bought another mag and didn’t help. Took steel wool to ramp with no change. Maybe shoots 3 rounds in a row then just acts up. So accurate but can’t trust it at all.

@@markmatroni631 yeah i really love the gun for its accuracy and capacity. It’s ambidextrous too. Have you tried a new recoil spring? A new stiffer mag spring?

@@markmatroni631 I’ve changed springs on a couple guns to great success. Wolff springs are not expensive and you can often tune with spring kits they sell.
