Thank you for putting on this treasure! I've loved it ever since I first saw it. By good fortune, I was able to see some of the most marvelous dancers of that era in person! "A Month in The Country" captures the Russian soul, and these great artists interpreted it with such ardor. I love the music, also, and Sir Frederick Ashton used the composers' sensitivity to the best effect. I'm so happy that this has been preserved and is available to many more viewers. Thank you for this awesome treasure! I have always wanted to see Dowell danced when he was younger. The artistry between them is so passionate. Chopin's music makes it so.

Makarova was my favourite at the time and Dowell was quietly in the background of Nureyev becoming a perfect classical dancer. I was brought here because I recently saw Osipova and Hallberg in the ballet and I don't think I quite appreciated it years ago. It's a work of beauty and intense feeling. An example of the genius of Ashton. I feel so lucky that the Royal Ballet will always have his ballets (along with MacMillan's) for us to see. Thank you for putting this ballet on here for us.

The music is Andante Spianato by Chopin. Sheer loveliness.

what a nice find. I saw both of them dancing this live when i was a student in London in the mid to late seventies. I also saw it danced by Lynn Seymour for whom Ashton had created the choreography. This is time travel at its best. :)

Love Dowell, he’s such an elegant dancer. The shoes he is wearing seem odd. Makarova is also wonderful.

But alas, because of his sexual preference (like many other gentlemen in this profession), he could only offer her friendship at best. Like many ballerinas, she always saw herself falling for another dancer. Her partner. Don't they all? And you can see why here. "We had such chemistry. He's so strong," she said.
