Hey guys, I just wanted to share some side income I earned this past summer. I started a company that repairs window screens and surprisingly it has some potential! Opportunities are everywhere, just have to put in the work.

Was doing some research for my company and came across your video. My partner and I started exactly the way you did in late 2011. Last year we posted our best year 1.2 million in gross sales. We still do tons of screens (new ones) but our core business now is dual pane glass repair. Keep up the good work.

Here we are in 2023. Are you still operating your re-screening business? I found you because I'm looking to add an ancillary service to my home inspection business. I hope all is well for you. Great video. I really like your professional approach and your use of Numbers for spreadsheets. Good job! All the best and a successful 2023!

Did you build that spreadsheet or was there a template that was available? That is nice work and in the market of starting a similar business. Any information is greatly appreciated

Where do you buy your tools of screens and can you make a video if you haven’t about different types? Thanks

Great video and content! Contractors how are late make those of us who are on time look fantastic, in my opinion. Your prices are way below market you guys could double your prices and still be very competitive.

Been doing this side gig since 2012. Tip #1- since gray screen is normally harder to strip, use an o-ring pick to remove spline. #2- A piece of 3/4x4x4 plywood with a piece of 1/4” masonite on top set on top of a couple of Harbor Freight folding saw horses. I have tons of other tips if you’re interested. Good video!

@@superatech WD-40 can also help getting gray screen to “turn loose”. Original screen frame has an outward bow to help eliminate “hourglassing”. Old frames lose this so if you not using a “frame track” to keep it square, press down on the new fabric as you’re splining so that the frame doesn’t “bow in”.

@@patmckeehan6236 Hey I read your Comment about Window Screen Repair. I have Repaired all my screens and Patio Big Door Screen. I am ready to get a side Hustle/Gig going on. I do enjoy it however I want to look Professional when going out on a Job. Can you help tell me where to Purchase a " Frame Track" ? I see where I can purchase all the other Professional equipment. Also what is a good way to Market? Do you have a Training Course ? Thx!
@patmckeehan6236
@patmckeehan6236 Ай бұрын
@@zbrown2344 unfortunately, my only training course is trial and error. I always tried to stay with Primeline parts and Phipher wire. I tried buying screen on Amazon ONCE. It was terrible. My local DoItBest hardware store was the easiest, not always the cheapest, but easiest place to buy. I think Ace is the same way. I could order by Monday noon, and pick it up on Thursday morning. My contact would always stay on top of my order just in case something was out of stock. If you’re serious about getting into it and have the space, Wakefield has a great system for saving your hands/thumbs. I’ve retired because of arthritis in my thumbs/palms. (Caused by doing many thousands of screens). If that table had been available when I started, l would’ve definitely invested in one! BTW, most of your hardware stores and independent building supply stores don’t offer this service, which is a great place to start.

Where do you source your material for screens?

Hi Darius. First off thank you for your video. I'm planning to the same. Wondering how much do you charge charge for windows, doors or larger size windows? Also do you charge for materials or does it come with the price? Sorry for all the questions. Thank you again.

Great video. I also recommend to charge more. Ask yourself how much is your time really worth? Also the large franchise out there doesn't even show up for less than $200

I thought the same thing. That is $33 per hour each. People will pay much more for a quality service. $20 per screen minimum.

Why didn’t I think to do this. I used to roll mesh onto screen frames for 4years professionally in a manufacturing warehouse. Used to do 200-400 a day.

Lots of opportunity. I tried to have mine done and took them to a glass company who used to do my customers when I owned a window cleaning company. He can't find screeners and he pays $20 per hour. Took them to a company he recommended and there is a 4 week turn around time. I did it myself in 2 hrs and it got my wheels turning. I want to start a small company and train my son so he can pay his way through college and learn how to be an entrepreneur when the time comes. He's 13 and asked me today, "Dad, when can we get started"?

You should add Casper Screens to what you do. If you sell 10 screens/month you'd make about $5k extra/month. Easy and very profitable. Check out their videos.

$10 per screen? I haven't visited a hardware store that wasn't charging $25 and that was even 10 years ago, and this is the convenience of in home. Crazy. I also don't know a service of any kind that is in home that does not have a minimum that starts at $100 just to show up to a customers driveway,. So know way should there be s $30 entry on your spreadsheet.

I was wondering the same thing. But I guess he was new at this and doing it as a side hustle, which would justify the super low price. When his assistant said that people hire them for their low prices, I was a bit surprised, but looking at the actual numbers made sense. Kudos to him though for finding about this side hustle and making it work.

Undercharging for your work leads to poverty. If you want to be cheap, go 20% or less for normal pricing. If you doubled your price, you'd have about the same amount of biz but be making twice as much. My unprofessional guess is your biz is not sustainable. Good vid and best of luck to you. 👍

You guys are not charging enough for your services. I pay 20 to 25 dollars per screen. I drop off and pick up and install myself.... wait time two weeks average. I had one guy quote $50 per screen!

Hey man I love it but I think you’re leaving money on the table. ACE hardware charges at least $25 per rescreen and you have to bring it to them and go pick them up. I know you’re trying to be value based but this doesn’t seem like a great deal for you. By the time you drive there and back you’re not really profiting much, you could easily double your prices and still be the cheapest in town. I’m a window cleaner and I started offering this at $35 per rescreen and at least $60 for a build and have zero pushback. You may also want to look in to window cleaning, for under $1k you could be rolling making $100+ per hour!
@AMNationMedia
@AMNationMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tyler. We are still profiting, most clients right now are in a 5 to 10 mile radius so I have not branched out far yet. I hope to cover the rest of the city once I have a team of 2 -3. Yes I agree with increasing my prices, first I want enough referrals and positive feedback from customers on Facebook and Google reviews so I am keeping it low to attract the attention for now. This summer I think I will bump up to $25 to $30. I will also consider window cleaning, just not willing to invest in the tools just yet. I want to keep my business simple, we only focus on one thing for right now. Thank you for your comment and watching the video, I appreciate you Tyler!

Screen repaired my parent's house (watched a video on youtube, this is how i learned), I saw other houses in the neighborhood that needed screen repair. Made some flyers, left them on doors or mailboxes that needed it. Placed some notes on social media in neighborhood groups in my area. People started reaching out for appointments. Thanks for watching!
