I would like to correct you on your video. You said that all of these courses are free and get accreditation, but that is not true. Technically, it is free if you want to "audit" the class but to get the full verification or completion of the class you have to pay a fee, and it is roughly near or about $120 for most of it. So, be careful when you say free.

​@ZenDiary, it's free if you want a paper certification that isn't free, but you can stay with the digital copy of the certificate. Lol, so yeah, that's more so you can post it up at home and show you got Harvard certification. Plus $150+ for a nice Harvard printed with stamp and all isn't bad at all. 👍lol

@watubeenmissing Have you taken the course before? I wanted to confirm if the certificate for persuasive writing is free or not. If theres no certificate, then im not gonna attend it as i really need it to attach in my cv. If u have any knowledge regarding it ( even if digital copy, it will work out for me ) then do tell me.

that is true. but that does not mean you need to wait 2 years to start monetizing. You can always apply to entry level jobs in data science and get paid to practice

Actual data science is incredibly saturated at the moment. You would be competing against people with Bachelor's degrees and 7+ years experience or Masters and 5+ yrs experience. We don't even see the resumes of people without that experience. As she said, your best bet is to gain the skills, continue your education, and get a more entry-level job. If you have zero tech experience, most people start in IT Help Desk to get a foundational understanding (and, let's be honest, get it on the resume). A short stint here can get you a job as a data analyst, adn you can work up the company from there (this is the easiest path). I suggest you look for analyst jobs in Finance, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, big data, etc. Even with saturation and AI, these particular sectors will have more of a need for data scientists than others. Hope this helped!

I figured… These courses are to give you a taste and then get you to sign up and pay for the full course…

If you notice on Harvard's website, is that some of the disciplines such as "data scientist" for example, offer a paid certification course that allows a graduate to seek employment in that field. Of course, anyone who just completed an education in whatever field is going to start as an entry level employee, no matter where they graduated from.

Honestly, I am university graduate and had several change of jobs and in no one they asked for my documentation but I was hard tested in every one. Your skills matter not certifications. Whatever you put on your resume will be testes so how does the paper matter.

First of all, if You didn’t get a certificate, you cant mention it in your CV - and this it the main goal, as i get from the video. Second, if you still mention it in the CV or fake the certificate, and later they will figure it out - you’ll have problems. Yes , you’re right, skills are matter, not papers - this works if you *already* hired. But to be hired, you need to show papers

You can put project on resume though…. So can sub in for certificate. Also you can get the certificate for free.

Nobody talks about age limit and you shouldn't limit yourself either....I am still learning. I learned programming after 40 and I never was alone in my age group since people go through multiple career changes nowadays.

@harrymandell, exactly. I'm in my third career change at the moment and about to get into AI and ML & learning python. We all must change with the times to keep up. Think how boring it would be otherwise!

Nevertheless, having said all that, your videos ARE certainly terrific value as well as being inspiring. Clearly there is a lot of value in these courses which are nevertheless free! So thank you for pointing this out to people. I for one certainly would not have known anything about these free Harvardx courses. For this I'm really grateful for your research, effort and diligence.
