Learn how to make ambient 90s new age music like you'd hear on Pure Moods from 1994. It's no surprise this genre would eventually pop up, as the pad heavy tracks radiate with cheesy evolving ambient pads from romplers like the Korg Wavestation, Roland JD-990, and Yamaha SY-22 #musicproduction #bitwigstudio

Great stuff The 90's were incredible for ambient and electronic. I started in about 88 and every week new tracks would come out that were so wonderful. My best setup back then was a Wavestation, Roland sampler, ARP2600 and Jupiter 4. Made so much music with them.

Thanks David. Have to agree, endless quality electronic releases from the 90s - really inspiring to go back & listen to a lot of stuff. Which Roland sampler did you have back then? S-330/550? Isn't it incredible how the simple setups are where we get the most work done?

You pretty nailed it. Really brings back time. It has the vibe of that Enigma song with the French vocal (forgotten the title) One little tiny thing I'm missing the little pitchbends with the shakuhaschi-flute sound. I was trying to figure out the swing to the hats in that sample at 1:10, (I've never been good at swing, though love how it's used in 90s music like this, I wanted to see exactly what subdivisions the hats were landing on), and I noticed there isn't one definite bpm where everything lines up to grid. Multiple measurements I got an average of 95.23bpms, but as low as 95.1bpm and high of 95.44bpm. While that is only a 0.35% difference, I found the discrepancy odd, I would have expected a by-hand playing to be more out of time, and a programmed beat to be more in time, so I don't know what's going on here, regardless, the timing imperfections probably only add to the feel of the swing. // Great tutorial, nailed the sound. That wavestation plugin sounds awesome, I'll have to get it!!

The swing on those hats are legendary. Was trying to recreate it manually at first then just ended up dropping the sample in after 30 minutes of no dice. Enigma's production for its day was phenomenal. If you haven't already, checkout his album The Screen Behind The Mirror. there's defo some proper cheese on here, but the production for its day and especially the mixdowns are insanely good. not to mention the arranging and sound choices that sounds like it inspired most 90ies console music that matters (Donkey Kong Country for instance)

90s jungle? Yeah. 90s romplers? Yeah. 90s spacious pads? Hell yeah! 90s new age compilations? TOO FAR 😂 Honestly I thought this was pretty cheesy at the time, and haven't changed my mind. Great job recreating Enigma though! The 90s hardware outboard is real attention to detail. I dug out my old ART Multiverb last week and unfortunately it no longer works. Looked at buying another one for a laugh and they go for 70 quid now! WTF. I may have to get it fixed for purely nostalgic reasons, but it's crazy how stuff from the 90s is becoming desirable again.

@Thought-Forms 13 күн бұрын
Believe it or not - there is a level beyond 90s New Age we can go 😃 and we may go there because why not LOL. Cheers mate. The old ART stuff seems to usually go for DIRT cheap, 70 quid does seem a little high. I see a multiverb for $30 USD locally. You should totally snag one for nostalgia. No doubt, all the 90s stuff has been skyrocketing since covid, but it's cooling off a little, and I do think prices are going to slowly drop down across the board....except maybe a JD-990
