@4:23 There's a bit of wiggle there when the drill starts, doesn't that affect the trueness of the hole? Wish you could've put in a dowel or nail into the drilled hole and used a square to show the results whether the guide was accurate or had a little angle to it. Good idea though, thanks for the upload.

Turn the block over on it's side and use the 90 degree corner of the cutout, you will not need a drill press.

Turn the drill guide on its side and, assuming the notched cut is square, butt it against the drill bit and it’ll drill straight. No drill press required. Also: the music in the video was atrocious and unnecessary.

dude you just lay down you block on a side, and use the corner to guide you drill lol :D and you can see exact point where you need to drill, and in your case you are making bad angle drill even with your guide, its tilted from point of viewer is kinda tilted clock wise its like 7-1 clock ;)

"A number 8 screw needs a 3/16ths drill bit, to pilot you need. 7/74ths drill bit". Why on earth don't Americans just use metric it's baffling.
@davidjgomm
@davidjgomm 3 жыл бұрын
I have never heard of anyone ever using 74ths as a denominator, let alone a 7/74ths drill bit. Imperial measurements have a lot going for them (0.3 recurring vs 1/3 for eg) but most use base 12. 74ths are not base 12. 72nds yes, 74ths no.
@darrolhargreaves6828
@darrolhargreaves6828 3 жыл бұрын
It's just strange the the entire world has started using metric but the yanks want to stick with something so old. At least you sound like you have an appreciation for both. Inches and feet do relate a bit better to the measurements of the body so I guess it does make some sense for furniture making etc but it just seems to much more confusing that just dividing things by 10 to me :)
@davidjgomm
@davidjgomm 3 жыл бұрын
@@darrolhargreaves6828 I grew up at a time when the UK was undergoing metrication. In 1971 our currency underwent decimalisation and we were all taught imperial and metric systems. But the UK never really followed through so that we still buy, for eg, 2 pints of milk which by EU law* has also to be marked up on the bottle as 1.136litres! No one has ever asked me to bring them 1.136l of milk from the store. When it comes to measuring timber etc I just use whatever happens to be easier at the time, inches or cm. *Possibly not for much longer.
