Can we just appreciate how Roahm ALWAYS gives levels a fair chance, rather than using the skip teleporters that are very much justified for some of these levels?

I'm very much of the mind that, if you see a skip teleporter, you should absolutely take it. Whatever the problem was, it's usually not worth suffering through it. I beat Hunter Tower. I learned my lesson. Take the skip teleporter.

I always give levels with skip teles a fair shot... at first. If i feel like it isn't worth my time, I'll go back and skip it.

I always give it a try to those skip levels, until tier 5 that after finishing a stage 2 times for getting a easter eggs i couldnt take the second element and had to Replay the level for a third time, that was when i took the skip teleporter

For the uninitiated, those prototypes are all concept Robot Masters from Mega Man 2's development. And yes, Barga Man and Elephant Borg are what those two are named in the Official Complete Works artbook and in Legacy Collection's museum. The fire-shooting Quick Man is based on Quick Man's iteration from Rockman no Constancy. Bubble Man's water spout isn't an actual attack, for the record - it's just a purely cosmetic thing I added to him for when he's fought out of water. You can safely move under him like you would in a normal underwater battle with him.

...Oh goodness, umm... hi, I'm the one who made The Cave Level That Exists six years ago. What started out as an ambitious concept for a Cave Story-themed level got bogged down by a lack of experience and motivation. Regarding the Bubble & Sonic fight, I think back then I thought the water made the fight too easy, but I didn't think at the time that removing the water would tilt things way too far in the other direction (course, it being a haphazard double boss in general already has its issues). (Also, the water spout under Bubble Man is basically supposed to be a water jetpack, in order to explain how he can move outside of water. I believe it doesn't do damage) If you're wondering, taking the top path would've led you to a basic Mad Grinder fight before joining up in the room before the Dragon. I do wish I had contained the incentive all that time ago to flesh out the level more and leave out some of the more weird decisions (like the random Flash Man NPC, the double boss, or the mess of blocks in the Dragon room). I guess that's just how hindsight ends up being sometimes. If nothing else, I am at least happy to have contributed something to an experience like MaGMML3, even if it was nothing too special. Not Delivering On Promises can be stupid fun with all the weapons being infinite. The level itself is nothing special though. I do really hate that invisible ladder though, and I'm surprised you managed to find it accidentally Also, the Quick Man that shoots Heat Man pillars actually comes from a Mega Man 2 ROM hack: Rockman No Constancy 14:43 Favorite Robot Master battle theme? Honestly my favorite is either 6 or 10. There's nothing really aesthetics about A piece of cake, but with aesthetics. It's also basically 2 short levels stitched together (though thankfully this is probably one of the least egregious multiple element cases)

3:50 Once again, durgon lucks into finding an invisible ladder. YOU WILL NOT KEEP THE DURGON FROM HIS SHINIES. 24:15 The devkit bosses are each weak to a specific set of weaknesses unless the level creator specifically changes that, which most don't.

Bubble Man's out-of-water behavior is default in this engine. He'll even dynamically change between his classic pattern and the goofy water jetpack on the fly in a room with both water and air! I don't think the water actually has a hitbox, though...

A few interesting things about the levels today, Not delivering on promises was the very first level submit at the start of the entry period, while A piece of cake but with aesthetics was the very last level to be added to the project after submissions closed due to difficulty in contacting the creator (they had locked the file they uploaded to invited users only). Those two being right next to each other is an amusing sort of bookend to the entry period.

A little clarification regarding Quick Man and his AI. I've watched a video that goes into the game's code, it and a few other NES games, and Quick Man's AI functions as it should. The issue is instead collision. In Mega Man 2, when Mega Man collides with a wall, the game is programmed to push him back and then stops any forward movement. Quick Man, due to how fast he moves, gets pushed back further than normal, which causes him to move forward and partially clip into the wall again, over and over until the timer for his run expires and he resumes his jumps. Now, Quick Man is normally supposed to jump three times and throw boomerangs at the peak of his second jump. But what happens if he jumps while partially inside the wall? Well, he gets pushed into the floor and the game responds by pushing him out. But because his feet touches the ground in the process, the game thinks he completed his first jump, and so he does his second jump which causes him to throw his boomerangs. Other random elements such as the height and length of his jumps, and the spread of his boomerangs, are intentional.

Indeed. (I suspect I've seen the same video.) It's not an AI problem, but the somewhat spaghetti collision code of MM2 that caused the issues. (Look, all respect to the game that really wrote the rulebook for Mega Man, but if we are talking about the same video then the one immediately before it explains the inner workings of the collision and why you can bonk Mega Man on a ceiling and fire him to the end of the level. The collision is, if nothing else... imperfect...)

i will note, people can definitely manually set weaknesses but most people using the devkit bosses just never swapped them out, either making them more difficult by trying to mess with the boss arena or just disabling the weapon in question. So when you find a weakness for someone in one stage it's *usually* the same in others with the same boss.

I wish I could have seen that broken reward room in NDOP but the devs apparently sealed it off, which is understandable, there's another broken bolt room in a later level that does something more creative to avoid giving up all those bolts.

It's actually not sealed off! I managed to get to it. It's yet another hidden ladder trick, groan. And yes, the same thing happens with this one that happens with the other stage you refer to.

@@Joe-lj4jw We had access to the Level Mapper and various dev cheats; I can't speak for the other judges, but I used the map to find where the entrance should be, and then I used noclip mode to fly around the screen until I stumbled upon the invisible ladders.

Feel like Roahm will get the 10,000 buster shots achievement sooner than Pink did. Especially considering she tended make use of the weapons available a lot more often for... reasons. **Glances over at various Joes, Mets, Shield Attackers, and other similarly shielded enemies used throughout MAGMML 3.**

it's so funny that you can tell she's very much also trying to go buster only for as long as her patience allowed earlier on, but a dozen or so streams later it pretty much just becomes a reflex to pull out the ol' trident whenever a shielded enemy appears at all

@@darkness74185 Laser Trident is just MVP. Unfortunate that such a weapon wasn't in previous contests. Although, I hope they all do some kind of anti-shield weapon in them. I know MAGMML 2 had one but it was a melee weapon.

Okay, I think you're the first one I've seen to find that token room in Not Delivering on Promises on the first playthrough. Honestly, the best tell it has is coming right after You Don't Know the Drill and its own invisible ladders. I suspect that Mecha Dragon in The Cave Level That Exists was up so high because he was trying to keep his head out of range. A shame that his whole body is vulnerable in this engine.

Gonna be honest, if I had to I'd pick the version of 4's boss theme from 4GB. It's faster paced than the original, so. I also appreciate you finding something nice to say about pretty much every level. We need more people like you. Thanks for playing this- I've already 100% it, it's a great time.

Quick Man's appearance and behavior in the first stage is taken from a very popular ROM hack named Rockman No Constancy. :v Of course, the fight here is much more fair. In the original hack, Quick Man just leaps everywhere and spams Delay Flame like nuts.

I'd say my favorite RM battle theme is the MM4 theme mix from MM4GB. And here we have our first multi-element level. They thankfully aren't TOO common in this game, but there are some...decisions with them, when they do show up.

Honestly, I was kinda surprised by the appearance of the Quest 64 battle theme, also a Rockman no Constancy reference was pretty cool. That cake level really felt unfinished as a whole, tbh. And that Cave level was pretty neat considering both are a bit similar with how they shoot things, but it also did feel alittle undercooked. Might have been neat to have some Cave Story enemies in it, but I'm not sure how easy it is to make custom enemies like that.

If you watch Bubbleman's animations, it looks like it's intended to not be a water room - Bub's floating by jetting out water and once he gets so far up he starts to look worried.

Nothing too important, but if you're interested, the Sounds menu in the options let's you change what type of sounds happen for any of the different sound queues, including DOS! (I find it silly enough for the death noise that I use that for deaths haha) -Not Delivering on promises: I swear, it took me again to check the judge comments before finding that the token were in a secret area with a secret ladder - it's area seemed suspicious but I would've never guessed a secret ladder. Interesting Joe glitch! First time I saw that! That final Quick Man is still weird. -I still like the nice touch of the failed robot masters. It's nice flavor text! -A piece of cake, but with aesthetics: Indeed a piece of cake, but probably could've been only one element. Just putting the tokens on one path would've been fine . -The Cave Level That Exists: like the Cave Story vibes to this one, wish the level actually made proper use of it. It certainly exists. That dual boss fight out of water is rather complicated, feels like force weapon usage to me.

Fun SPOILER-LADEN fact about #171: Not Delivering on Promises: There's a giant bolt hidden within the level, in the screen above where the Trickster Token was found. However, something happens after you collect it, and I won't spoil it further than I already have.

3:42 Yeaaaaah....another invisible ladder. These get old pretty fast, I feel. Something I've noticed with a lot of these low entries is that they put like no effort into the backgrounds as well. Like, they're almost always just singular colors or whatnot. It feels really weird in a lot of cases. A bit unnatural.

When it comes to some of those 'concept' Robot Masters, I could see that elephant one having some affiliation with Serenade from BN if they ever became a Classic series character. Thunder Man did at least get 'resurrected' as a Navi... It took me a while at first, but it turns out that the music for the first stage is a remix of the Battle theme from Quest 64. For the 2nd level, weird choice for Magma Man's theme I will admit (I think); & it was honestly kinda disappointing that Dust Man still doesn't use his buster; you'd think he'd been modified to do so in a game like this. Changing the subject though, my personal favourite Mega Man battle theme would be the one from MM6. As for the third level, well, they're not wrong, although that double battle was all kinds of janky...

Not Delivering on Promises - Man, these early stages absolutely love their hidden ladders, don't they? Never a fun gimmick. Beyond that it seemed like an okay stage, if a tad on the boring side, with sudden enemy spam at the end. A Piece of Cake - It does feel like an ol' NES game with that aesthetic, but man, that plain, single color background gets really dull after a while. I know the NES games were (eventually) capable of having rather fancy backgrounds. Though when we got to those hideous walls, I kinda wanted the plain backgrounds to come back. All in all, a simple rompy little stage. The Cave Level - It's... a stage that exists, yeah. The aesthetic is nice, I guess, but it doesn't feel Mega Man. Lack of water physics against water bosses again feels weird. I really don't have a lot to say about this one. It's... there. For the battle theme question, 6 will always be my favorite for the classic series. I dunno, it just hits the right notes.

What if Se Cossack and Zangief were longtime best friends? They both are from Russia, are both characters from Capcom, and came out around the same time. Perhaps when they both were in school together, Dr Cossack helped Zangief with his schoolwork while Zangief protected Cossack from school bullies. It’s possible that Mega Man and Street Fighter can somewhat have a small parallel universe together. It’s fun to think about. Perhaps twice so that Zangief the Godfather to Kalinka.

I would be surprised if you actually delivers a piece of the cave. I mean, what's 'a piece of the cave' supposed to mean anyways? A random stalactite? surprising someone actually found the hidden ladder in the first play. Don't think most people would know about it but you stumbled upon it, congratulations. I'm sure that Joe went to the better place. Would it be heaven, or would it be hell? We don't know for certain, but whatever that place would be, I'm sure they don't have to operate the armor on the lower part of the structure, looking at the sky of nothingness while waiting for a random player to come down. Is... the second set of fire supposed to stay during the fight like that, hiding behind the health bar for eternity? Thought they were to damage players. ...I didn't even notice I can read through those robot statues, that said though, some names does ring a bell.

He kinda knows, but he didn't play the entire game. Reason being, the game's setting and plot was unsettling for him, and that deterred him from playing further. Note: IIRC, that was a long time ago, so not remembering details or stuff about the game should be expected.

Basically, I played the original version of the game, and while the gameplay itself was alright, there were various elements about the plot that I did not enjoy. Such as actually showing concern and checking on someone that falls down a pit actually locking you into the BAD ending. Check on them, they die. Ignore them, they live. Sense make?
