Assume job. I think his R2 might be a little better then the one in the movie. As an electrical engineer, I have to say he did a great job. Very skillful. Kudos to the builder.

this would be really a good business if you could make one with built in medical equipment for Doctors to use at a children's hospital for example it would build up positive re-enforcement and a healthy approach to healing children with little hope, you never know it might be the spark for a miracle.

I've got about $3k in mine and its almost done. It depends on what kind of material you use. If your going to buy all aluminum parts - yeah, you can spend about 10k easy. But if you build the thing out of plywood inside and plastic styrene it can be make for under $4k. Looks and acts the same as the real R2. I've seen all metal droid right next to wooden and plastic ones at CV and you can't tell the difference. The wooden ones are a lot lighter and easier to move around.

You know, we have robots on wheels at University Maryland Hospital. They are about the height of an R2 unit and deliver medicine, etc. They even call elevators and ride to the right floor. I always think of Star Wars when I see them. I think your suggestion is great! Why not have them shaped like R2 units instead of boring boxes?

They should implant something in the near future in these so he has the actual R2 emotions and can move by himself XD

i am currently in the dreaming stage for building a unit, i'm seriously considering a wooden frame instead of a metal one. 2-3-2 option is a must, periscope, whole nine yards.

lol the gadget i was referring too was not a $150 ipod. I was talking about home made gadgets that people send months planning and manufacturing for the rest of the builders. Those get expensive. But you can build a really inexpensive one for under a grand easily but it will made out of plastic.

@jordu1 yeah prolly a couple million or so since it speaks real languange and has about 20 more things to control than R2, not to mention the weight distribution when it tries to walk, which aparently is really hard.

Any chance anyone here has integrated facial recognition and autonomous programming into an R2D2 unit? How about using Roomba (hacks) to run droids? Any luck of integration? Ideally, it will be a droid geek who figures out how to make their droid/robot intelligent and autonomous; by either top-down or bottom-up programming...I believe its got to be a combination of the two; that is, it's got to be programmed with a set of intelligent present commands, but with the capacity to learn.

Pretty nice R2 units but same with every fully working prop the price isn't even worth it building prices,nearly every cool prop is WAY to much money and does not make sense these the people who sell these are just greedy pigs
