Make a Top Down Shooter in Unreal Engine 5

It's time for my first Unreal Engine 5 beginner tutorial! And we're going to be making a top down shooter. We'll be using Quixel Bridge as well as a Paragon character because why not? They're awesome and they come with a ton of animations.

Can you make ART in Unreal Engine 5 ? Like a 'typical' painting of a vase of flowers ... but in 3D ?

@@SeaJay_Oceans You can but you have to model the object from cubes and other primitives instead of painting it. Just like in Blender. Or just export from Blender to UE5.

Thats the problom with this stuff. its all to sell corses he has incentive to teach you nothing and pad his video with fluff and jargon. This is the same for all Unreal "tutorials" . These peoples incentive is to force you to buy corses and watch their nothing videos. This is the industry.

@@Eldalion99999 You cant. hes selling corses. its a s c m . If you dont know how this works. You create a video with a title and keywords in the tags. That people with a certen intrest like. Then you make a nothing video that teachs almost nothing or uses jargon and insider terms whilst showing as little as possible. You need to make it so a person watching can not confidently USE the info in the first video. Most of the things talked about to work so its not outright lieing. Thus he will face no legal problems. However getting them to work is far FAR more difficult than the video shows. There is multiple steps skiped and a base level of knowledge required to understand this at all. This is not a mistake this on purpose. Becouse it gets the person to click on the corse selling page. Which is where the real sc a m begins. The landing page is outside of youtubes TOS. becouse its not on KZfaq. This is where you give him your money and get nothing in return, and have no recourse to get it back. The only purpose of this video is to get you to click the corse sellling link to get you to the landing page.

This tutorial is perfect bro. It clearly isnt very scripted. It's just you and the engine. You dont over explain information that bores me and is easy to forget. This is how I like to learn. Just work along side you and get something rolling. Very good video. I'll be looking for a part 2 when I'm finished following this video! Well done bro!

Just watching this now, amazing. One thing I did notice, while playing around. Select all the static meshes, right click and go to Asset Actions \ Bulk Edit via Matrix. In that, select all the meshes again and change collision to simple complex all at once under the static mesh\body setup drop down. Much faster to set collisions.

will never happen this is a standard course seller con. Only reason this exists is to drive traffic to the sales link in the description. Im responding to you 3 months later te remind you to watch out for this stuff. Its a very trending con. Becouse youtube removed the dislike button awhile ago. These things dont get erased by the algorithm and draw in unreal engine interested. viewers as they appear on top of all unreal engine search's. The videos are useless though. They are either outdated or skip info on purpose. That info is either covered in the con artists book/course. Or was never functional to begin with and was an attempt at building creditability. since the video can not be down voted anymore.

Awesome video. I was wondering could you block out the playable area first and add the meshes for the ground and walls after you have the level fine tuned so it plays a certain way like if you want to try and guide the player in a certain direction?

Static meshes seem to be a great answer when you have small play spaces, but wouldn't they become cumbersome if you were building something larger (like an open world)?

Hi, this video is incredible and I cannot thank you enough for making it so detailed and easy to follow. I'm having a small problem with the direction of the projectile from my character's weapon though - how do I make it always come from their front, even when they spin? When my character looks up (forward) it goes up. but when it looks left, right or down (back) it keeps going to that same "up" direction. Can you please help me understand what I'm doing wrong? Thank you a bunch! :D

Unreal does have a template for Twin Stick Shooters and he could use what he did here in that. This is just me but I loved paragon and love that all the assets are free to use now. I just mess around and use them to make different games

Sorry I thought about another question. I probably won’t make a top down game but I’m wondering how performance intensive it would be to simulate cloud shadows on the ground? I know you can’t see the clouds but I think it could add a small but powerful visual to see cloud shadows.

Hello , I was trying to edit Animations through Bone Transformation. When I do the transformations, add a key I can’t seem to apply it. In UE4 there is a button as “Apply additive Layer Tracks to Runtime Animation Data” but I couldnt find it on UE5. Any help? Thanks

when you said, you won't need any landscape and then created a simple collision to your mesh, you could also have mentioned, that a landscape is super efficient for collision because the alpha map defines the height in space. It is not important for your project, but i like when people give tipps during their videos which may be helpful in their own projects. Honestly, i had to forward a little bit, did you explain about the nav mesh for ai aswell? Is the ai able to move around objects in UE5 by default, or do we still have to create a nav mesh?

I have a question: In Unreal Engine 4.27 or 5, is there a way to exclude terrain that gets in between your Character and the camera View. make it so your camera doesn't go behind tunnel walls, and your character not be seen.

this perspective requires good game design principles to be applied. all of those rock textures are making it challenging to discern player affordances as well as attacking enemies on the Z axis.

Troubleshoot tip: I had an issue that my lights weren't showing after adding the 4 elements in the new map. I fixed it with by switching to Lit mode (Alt + 4) or click the button between Perspective and Show and turn on Lit.
