This is what I didn't know I needed to see! I love the easy-peasy prep & construction of the orange peel applique- especially the pre-pressing snip to the interfacing! Thank you!

Absolutely LUV these Quick Snips!! They are the cat's meow & the Tune is SO Much more easy to listen to other than tha Quacking noise. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for the snippet hint on cutting the slit in the interfacing before sewing peel piece together. I've just started this quilt and that is going to be a enormous leg up. I'm smiling! 😎

I started a quilt like this and now I just need to do a border or two and make the quilt sandwich! Great short tutorial, straight and to the point!!! I have all three of the templates and I'm glad that I have them. Now I need to make some placemats and potholders with them!!!

Great little tutorial, thanks! Although in the finished block in the demo, it appears that whoever sewed it made the two corners 'boxy' by sewing across the ends like the template at second 49 of the video. Those points are only trimmed off on the outside so that when you turn it inside out you get sharp crisp points at either end. When sewing, you're supposed to just sew one side of the curve to the dot/point (there's even a hole in this template so you can mark where to start/stop stitching at either end), then with needle down, twirl the shape around to sew up the opposite curve. The end points are meant to be 'points'. This video also skips the step of using your iron to fuse the orange peel shape to the background square before stitching. This is why you're using the fusible... to help keep the shape secure to the background before stitching down. Just wanting to be helpful to other viewers/sewists! ~Diana (Toronto) ;-)

This can also be made using one 10" background square. Appliqueing the peels to one square saves time cutting and sewing 5" squares together. :) I actually made this using the large orange peel template and a larger background square and it went together quickly and with less seams to match up. Updated comment: You can also use a circle where the peels meet to cover the points, especially if they are not quite perfect.

I wonder how this would look using one of those graduated solids layer cake from Kona as the background... I've been wondering how to best use my Kona "Silent Films" layer cake of dark greys to pale greys, and do have enough black-and-white charm packs to make it work. With maybe one block with coloured orange peels for a bit of punch and visual impact. Oh, the ideas these video tutorials inspire. Thanks MSQC!

Can this be done with two-sided fusible interfacing?
@skiptonius5346

You would not be able to flip it right side out after sewing the interfacing to the orange peel.

Your vid says, BUMPY side down. Which means you are using iron on Pellon. But then you never iron it onto anything. Why waste the money for fusible interfacing if you are not going to fuse it? In Jenny's tut, she has you iron the shape onto the square so it does not move... then you can sew around it. It seems this Snip is incomplete....

Sorry about that Livinnpjs! We appreciate your comment!

Livinnpjs I am making this quilt now. The reason for the iron on pellon (which they totally missed in the video) is that once turned in the right way and put on the background fabric, you then press it and the orange peel is then fused to background fabric.

Makes sense, and that is how Jenny does it in the long vid. I like the "snips" vids, but they really did not explain well in this one and I guess that was my point to them. I bet your quilt is AWESOME, too bad I can't see it. I love making MSQ quilts too!
