Awesome video Mr. Vong, very informative and fun to watch. 1a. 4-5 minute definitely, love the basics of the video, but with a 4-5 minute video, you can only put in highlights of the talks, and that's ok. Audio is the glue to everything. You can skip on a stabilizer, but it does bring a ton of production value.

I have filmed 2 weddings so far. Definitely undershot both of them. However the second one was DRASTICALLY better than the first. There are a million more things I learned from my second wedding as well. I would suggest doing as much research and practice before shooting your first wedding as possible, but actually doing it is definitely the best way to learn. DO NOT go in totally unprepared though.

Thank you very much...great video... i have some questions left..hope you like to reply: 1. how many months before the event do you accept and confirm bookings? I heard from people which accept 1-2 years before.. but how do I know how I will be in one year? what if I am ill? have no time... forget it.. etc.... noone can watch into the future.. 2. how many hours do you need after wedding for checking footage, selecting what you will use and not, editing video and getting an idea how do build up the videostory for an 4-6 minutes video and footage from about 4-6hours? 3. what will you do if you are ill on the "big" day or your cam is not working or your SD Card has an failure / is lost / stolen? do you have a special contract? how do you protect yourself against expensive claims from the customer? 4. do you always accept an order only when they made a deposit? (you never know if they still marry in 1 year e.g.), how much deposit do you ask for? 5. what framerate do you record and what shutter speed and aperture? 6. do you record slow motion in editing software? or directly during event? I think in normal mode recording and later deciding in editing software what I want in slow motion, or? thanks for your support and replies..

I think the biggest problem is people starting video or photography massively underestimate what is involved to produce a quality professional video or photo. You also need lights if you are filming speeches, otherwise the footage will be junk. Then there is the computer, editor app and how to use it. It cost a lot of money. Then there is working the camera, getting well exposed footage is pretty hard. Especially in changing light conditions. Then there is white balance. Shell i continue?

Nice video! So do you give the couple the raw footage as well? Or only the 20-40’ summary? If you film like 3 hours, all of that will be priceless when watching it during the 25th anniversary. I recently saw a video crew totally miss the moving speeches as they were too pre-occupied with artistic BS. They failed your second tip. Btw how good is the 18-135 for video? I thought the 18-105 was THE video lens for Sony APS-C

Jason, I'm going to have to put you on blast for this. Never, ever, ever, ever, do wedding videos unless you are saving up for a liver transplant that you need to save your life. It's the worst work in the world. It's a long day. It pays 1/10th of what a corporate gig pays. Brides are super picky. Most of you won't have cameras that can record for more then 30 mins with out over heating, or need a 1 second gap. That 1 second gap will be when they kiss at the ceremony. And if you miss that, you might as well refund the money. That's the money shot. Not to mention to compete with other wedding videographers, a 2-3 min recap won't doo. Brides want a 10-15 min highly edited version, and a long form 1-2 hour version. DO NOT SUCCUMB TO DO WEDDING VIDEOS. And if you do, never tell any one about it. You'll be undesirable to anyone except the local trash new station making $10 a hour. Source: Been there done that. Had to fight my way out of it. Finally did. Made a doc and sold it.

Just one question Jason, how was your battery experience with the A6400? I'm kinda bit stuck of getting between the A6400 or the A6600. I own a A7iii, but somehow, I need a back up camera. Although I own a GH4, it always fail me because of the different color, even I use a V-Log profile or flat profile both camera. What would you suggest?

I shot a wedding with a6400 with 3 batteries. Batteries died quick but thru out the entire 7 hour day I had to keep charging and switching out each segment. It worked out and didn’t feel under pressure With battery. but more battery would be better. I’d say have about 5 on hand. Also use a power bank. If you got the budget go for 6600 but a 500 dollar difference in price is a major win for a gimbal of 18-105 lens for event.

When recording audio, the zoom h4n, hn1, n other recording options in the similar price range don’t have the option to record at a specific frame rate since it records in real time. Does it matter if we don’t record audio at the same frame rate as video? Are the video clips usually short enough where the video and audio don’t get out of sync? What are the best options to sync audio in post? Should one transcode the wav file in post to the video frame rate prior to importing to ur editing system? Sorry I don’t have much experience shooting weddings or events, but I want to learn. :)
@jaikavi5464
@jaikavi5464 4 жыл бұрын
Jonatan Villafana 1 second of audio is 1 second of audio. Should not have a problem becoming out of sync. Problems arise when you start mixing different frame rates like 24, 30, 50 fps and wanting them to play back at normal speed. Footage will look jumpy because of frames dropped/added to confirm to timelines parameters
@jonatanvillafana3244

Jai Kavi then Why do the Sound Devices and higher end Tascam offer the options of frame rates? Maybe for slate and time code sync?
@jaikavi5464
@jaikavi5464 4 жыл бұрын
Jonatan Villafana I did not know if that option. You could be right about timecode. I record using tascams and Zoom recorders. When I import into FCPX I simply highlight the audio track with the corresponding film clip, right click and choose ‘synchronise.’ Usually works fine. If not I sync manually

Wow, just my opinion. You're way low on your charging. A single shooter should at least be getting $100 per hour plus. You ever see a wedding couple cry over pictures? A video represents way so much and brings out the emotion of the couple. And a bonus you can give or sell the Jpg's images from your video too! Oh yes, don't forget the computer and software. The list never ends.
