You can also buy drain sock if you use the slotted type. Or over the end. Gather up the end and secure with a twist tie.

Thank You for the video. I just picked up 12 of those tubs for a trial. I have used decorative whisky barrels before, but they are very expensive these days. I would throw a lose weed barrier or burlap on top of the 4-inch tube in order to prevent the soil from blocking those tiny holes.

I just remembered. A week or so back. I noticed an ant hill built around the little trunk of the tree and put thiazide granules on it. Maybe that poisoned the tree. Anyway, thanks for your reply.

Very nice video tutorial as always and good looking trees ….how do you drain the excess water for storage in the winter cause it’ll be heavy to lean that big pot on one side TIA🇨🇦
@thenotoriousfig

You start to get a feel for when the pot lightens up. You can tip them fairly easily just enough to drain most water. Thanks for the comment!

I make ollas out of 4" terra cotta pots for vegetables plants. The pots are buried with the plants. The roots of the plants wick off the unfinished terra cotta. This is the second year using, being successful last year. As of today, I've already have Roma tomatoes and Shisito peppers. Im in growing zone 8a in West Central Georgia.

I planted my first year cuttings into a 17 gallon sip pot in the spring. They grew huge as single leaders, I’m wondering what I should do with it for the winter storage. Do I empty all the water out, or just leave as is and put it in the garage. Thanks

I've gotten lots of rain, so my soil is soaked. I dumped the reservoirs by tilting the pots. They have all the moisture they need for many months now. But I'll put some water in pots in maybe January.

Do you worry about soil getting in the water reservior even with the weed barrier on the end of the tubes?. Would you recommend adding more weed barrier on the top of the tubs the dirt would sit on? Thank you. I have a lot of figs i propagated over winter that are ready to transplant into pots lije this.

Hey there. I planted a fig tree this year. It was just a 3 or 4 ft. Stem. No leaves. It's been a couple months and no budding and the "trunk" is turning Grey and the very top 6 I chest is turning g dark. Any suggestions? From Alabama.
@thenotoriousfig
@thenotoriousfig Жыл бұрын
There’s a chance it’s gone. At this point scratch the trunk about an inch above soil. You should see green if it’s alive. If it’s brown keep scratching.

@@lukeott58 empty livestock mineral tub. they sell them full of salt and minerals at rural king and tractor supply. but when they are empty they don't have much use. So they just have a ton of them sitting around. Red or yellow usually. No holes so great for the self wicking tubs.

Great instructional video. I would try this but for the fact that there is no way I could keep moving this weight in and out of my garage all Spring, as I do every day now with 19 large potted figs, even on trays with wheels. I am in zone 5 b and it is only 45 degrees today, very windy yet again, no sun for 9 days, rain, and down to 39 at night. This is strange weather for May🙆‍♀️

Quick question...do you just throw a handful of ozmacote in your reservoir and just forget it or do you water it down before pouring it in. Reason I'm asking is because I'm going on a cruise and I don't want to overwhelme the person watering my figs.
@thenotoriousfig
@thenotoriousfig Жыл бұрын
I mean maybe 1/5 of the little red scooper in the reservoir would work. You won’t be gone long so more than that is unnecessary.

I water into the reservoir and then don't have to water again for a week. And the plants grow better and fruit more than same sized pots. This is the ultimate 20g pot. It will beat 25g pots.
