Sony x3000 FTW. Happy to see you using it again, your the one that convinced me to get one YEARS ago! Still my favorite pocket travel camera. Might need to upgrade the battery though, not lasting as long anymore. Overall, still the most convenient camera to use. Wish Sony would update it! 🍄📽

I can’t believe I never thought of putting it at -3 EV. My white dog is always blown out. This should help a whole bunch. I still like vivid though, but I may try neutral and color grading. I just got a Zoom F2-BT for 32 bit float external audio, and it sounds fantastic. I don’t think I like that vignetting adapter you got, I’m not into the pro mist filter thing. You may want to source one of those Sony add on screens to complete your X3000 setup. I use my X3000 as a helmet cam, and that external monitor helps me point the camera correctly, and also doubles as a remote, but since you are mostly pointing it at yourself, you may not need it, but it’s nice to have. I have several GoPros, but still use the X3000. I also enjoy my RX0 with an add on cage, add on wide angle lens, and small gimble.

Thanks for sharing your insight and experience. I am still using and love my FDR-X3000. Now I successfully mounted my X3000 on my OM5 gimbal for my iPhone. No need for DJI pocket 3 for the time being.

Olympus can take over. Make it look more like a little sushi roll. Might motivate them. I still have my GoPro hero 5 in a ulanzi rig thing. Works well. I’m surprised they don’t have a cage for these. Probably too small of a market.

Hey Casey - have you ever tried dropping "mid detail" in post? I'm wondering how that would compare to using the mist filter to soften Sony's oversharpening. Might be an option for those without the filter?

I am not happy with Sony now. The hinge broke on my Sony A7c and the refuse to fix it under warranty. I didn't put pressure or anything on it. Flip it out and it broke like it was made of an egg shell. I literally just got this camera!

i've had this camera for years, i still use it from time to time. i've loved seeing all your videos championing it, but i really dislike the warped image in 4k so i use it only in HD so i can tighten the image... one thing though, i tried once to put an ND filter on it and it didn't seem to make a difference in motion blur. i was hoping to reduce the stuttering images and introduce a bit of blur. the camera seems to do whatever it can to keep the shutter speed quick... have you tried this? i HAVEN'T tried the mist filter though, i'll try that!

Ok you convinced me. Can't find the x3000 model but I find the X1000 models in Europe and they also are 4k with bracelet. I already have the DJI OSMO 1 but is not cool enough 😂

What memory card are you using for the 4K? I've tried a scan disk 128 gb ultra but get the error transfer speed not high enough, it seems that the Samsung EVO plus is the only one that can handle it. I hope so, just ordered one from Amazon

Your videos are excellent 👌🏼, one question: I have a Sony X3000 too, It turned off and when I turned it on I got a "temperature alert", the light blinked and it turned off. This continued to happen for several days, summer arrived and still. I already thought the camera was dead and I couldn't find anyone who dared to repair it. A year later it turned on again without problems. What could have happened there and how to avoid it in the future? I hope you can guide me please. Greetings and thanks in advance 🙏🏻🙌🏻

I'm using this camera for downhill. The camera still has some advantages. Wide view angle, low fish eye effect, great microphone. The stabilisation is not the best but ok. The biggest problem is the overexposed parts when you film on a sunny day in the forest. Bright parts are burned, and the camera is struggling hard with light reflexes. It is a bit better with vivid off. I've tried many settings, but the main problem stays. I have no idea if I can stick a filter onto the glass of the case and if it is going to work.

Always under expose 0.5 or -1 to tone down the brightness that just me though.

Same issue with me!! I love this camera so much, and can't bring myself to buy a GoPro and DJI Osmo Action 4 because this one is so reliable and has such great audio! But the over-exposure issue is real. This is what I do to avoid it: I am always conscious of where the source of light is, and when it's behind me (when the camera is pointing at me) I hold the camera at the height slightly above my face and tilt it slightly downward. That brings the exposure near normal. Try it.

I like these tweaking videos. And that camera has very small 1/2.5" sensor. Think about how amazing of footage is possible to get from 1" ZV-1 after tweaking.

Hey Kasey, I'm so impressed with the sound AND the amazing look of this camera, especially with your settings, including shooting in 4K, with HDR on). I just managed to buy a brand new one from a local electronics shop. It was a display model. I've been checking on it regularly for over a year. It went from $809nz ($659CAD), to $500nz, to $450nz ($366CAD). I went in and talked them down to $300nz. The box didn't have the battery, so I eventually paid $250nz ($203CAD). Hoping it will be a good replacement for my AKASO Brave 6+ as a MotoVlogging cam. If it isn't good for that, I think it will be my travel cam and I'll get a different action cam for MotoVlogging :) REGARDS, CAM FROM NZ :)

Every year or two I take a look at the latest cameras from GoPro， DJI， etc．， borrow one from a friend， and come out with the decision that the FDR−X3000 is still by far the best for my use cases．I wish it could do 60FPS 4K, but the optical stabilization and fact that it works acceptably at night more than outweigh that small deficit.（And AI Upscaling works amazingly these days, even if it takes a long time).

That color warp tool looks good. I've never used it. I shoot in C Long 3 and usually just use a curves node and one for log color adjustment. I should be a little more adventurous in Resolve like I do with photo editing. Photos. LOSER

@@substarbruce8882 I have to disagree. The m1 air from 2020 will destroy any intel laptop if you’re mainly doing editing. You will need a Samsung t7 external ssd because Apple screws you over if you configure it. The 2020 m1 air and pro is the only (budget) MacBook ever made that has proper cooling and the 2020 m1 air is fanless so if you get it used you won’t have thermal problems due to its very solid design. 2016 MacBook Pro will be on its last legs guaranteed

if i remember correctly he didn't like it. 16mm is too wide i think he said, and he didn't like the modular battery that you have to buy many accessories to make it work for you. he was happy when dji resurrected the action 1 with the action 3. i might be misremembering it

Well, as the Action 2 isn´t sold without the module anyway - be it just battery or the front screen - it isn´t necessary to buy it extra. With Apple USB-C adapter mic works good, you can even change volume unlike on Sony. It´s a fun little cam with the magnets. Price has really dropped and it now usually comes with the magnetic case for cooling.

I hate to be that guy, but to stop the vignette from moving turn off stabilization. I know I know you love in built stabilization, but from experience with filming skateboarding it helps with the shot

$879 now? I bought it when it was relatively new out and paid $500. Things that are wrong with this camera: 1-) Most of the time horizon level is wrong. Was it so hard to auto level with the floating lense? Do I have to buy a gimbal? 2-) Sometimes it is shakey even with the stabilisation on. 3-) Wind noise is a real problem, I have to stick some fur on the camera to get a good sound? Come on! I know the footage is great when you have all the conditions right, but if I’m buying new, I would go for dji action series.

Is that Ulanzi ball-head on X3000 with that thumb screw thing for quick/convenient mounting? Model number? It would be suitable for Sony ZV-1 with its unfortunate tripod mound placement. Funny you say about pocket radiation. I used to carry my phone in the left leg pocket always. Then one day it felt hot there. I looked, no mark, but burning. It lasted hours after I'd taken my phone out. I didnt learn from that, put phone in same pocket again, same thing happened and the burn lasted at least 24 hours. No mark, just internal burning sensation.

Everything you said here is sad but true. I picked up my GH6 earlier today at work (I'm a bit of a videographer at work) and realized how much of a brick it is. We are going backwards in time with tech in many ways. The reason the GH6 is so big and heavy? It's Kasey's fault. He wants 4K120 (and I do too, actually he wants 4K240). For a micro-4 loser sensor, that kind of slo mo requires extra heft and a fan, can't believe there's a fan in there.

Is the X3000 still the best??? You haven't compared it to the DJI Pocket 2 yet, or have you? Better gimbal footage. Better night video, better slight bokeh? Almost as good Stereo audio. Nice stable panning? Tiny and stealthy? As cheap New, as a used X3000! Cmon.Camera Conspiracies, won't you just admit I might have a good point, with the Pocket 2? Maybe even make a Video about it? 😊

Hey Kasey, you complain a lot about Sony colour science. But why haven’t you tweaked the picture profile settings yet? Sony literally gives you the most control of colour. Does is take [a lot] of effort? Yes! But more effort than continuing to grade your footage and complain about it? That’s up to you.

There’s a Eastern European guy on youtube that makes “film simulations” in-camera for Sony cameras, in one video he goes in-depth into what all the settings adjust.
