We will explore the Norwegian island city of Alesund and the surrounding area. We will climb Mount Aksla, visit the Waldehuset, or Miracle House, admire the art nouveau architecture, and navigate the port. We'll then take you to the highlights east of the city to drive the Trollstigen, wonder at the Trollveggan, see the roaring Gudbrandsjuvet Gorge, and taste strawberries as we drive through the Valldalan Valley. On our way, we'll stop at the Skjode Bru to see the longest rock bridge in Europe that was threatened by German occupation during WWII and were fortunate to meet up with the landowner who shared his history.
In part 2 of this video, we'll go the the islands west of Alesund and to an old German fort used during the occupation of Norway during WWII.

The view is so refreshing. The bridge is really amazing. It's good that they preserved it and built a steel one. It's nice to know its history. The troll wall is huge. The sculptures of trolls look real. It's foggy along the way, but the travel was all worth it because the view is very rewarding. Thanks for touring us around. There are so many cities that were burned or bombed and had to figure out how to rebuild and use that as an opportunity to identify themselves. Alesund looks like such a beautiful part of Southern Norway, on our recent cruise to Norway, sadly this wasn't on our Itinerary, so I need to make sure if we cruise there again, we need to make sure this is one of our ports of call as it looks stunning.
@welltravelledlife
@welltravelledlife 8 ай бұрын
Ålesund is a pretty typical port, so I would expect you won't have to go to great lengths to find a cruise that stops there. Bergen, and Molde seem to be the other ports nearby. It will be interesting to see how Norway's environmental laws will impact the cruise industry. More of the small ports like Geiranger are moving towards banning cruise ships. People will have to drive in, or go by electric ferry - both of which are great - though the electric ferry allows you the views of the spectacular waterfalls along the fjord.

Can you ballpark the amount we should offer or expect to pay? $300 USD for 3 of us for the day seem possible? If very expensive I’ll opt to drive the 3 of us. For a couple reasons, we think you should splurge and hire a driver (give Knut a call!) first of all, it’s a tricky drive, but even more importantly, the driving takes so much focus, you will totally miss the views. Do yourselves a favor and let someone else concentrate on the road while you get lost in the landscapes. We paid Knut $500 for the full day (that included a hefty tip). I think you could offer $350 and tell him you saw the video. He’s had other guests do that and he enjoys giving them “our” tour. You’re going to love Alesund!!

We paid $500 for the full day (that included a generous tip). We started at 8 am and were finished by 5 pm. If you contact Knut at the number in the description, and tell him you want the tour in the video, he will know exactly what you’re talking about. He’s done the same tour for other people who saw the video. He’s a rock star!!

The fire was absolutely devastating to the city, but it was in rebuilding it that they opted to go with the Art Nouveau style that now defines the city and makes it one of the prettiest cities in Norway. And the house that didn't burn...How about that?!?!

We admit it, we're SEO losers. We just don't get it. And we probably should hire somebody, but we've done this thing on our own. We're constantly learning and hope that we'll continue to grow as photographers, editors, and even SEO gurus. The SEO part just hasn't been our priority. We've been more focused on travelling, filming and editing.
