Make a 2-month battery pack for an iPhone 6S Plus from Tesla 2170 cells. This gigantic battery can last up to 2 months while can still be legally carried on an airplane. I will also do a little "review" about this contraption after a week of usage.

Need to replace boths cells. the internal one is crap and the external one came from my old motorola and it sat for several months almost discharged. these newer BMS modules in the modern phones can detect resistance and voltage drop under load and scale the charge status accordingly.
@TheUlmstar83
@TheUlmstar83 2 жыл бұрын
@@CotyRiddle This is exactly what happens in my case. The BMS sees something wrong, the charging power decreases, the battery reaches 100% on the screen, but the phone continues to pull from the charger for another 3-4 hours after. Test the whole behavior in several situations, and I can clearly say: overnight charging, no problems, does not indicate the correct charging but indicates the correct discharge and after 4 days at least I downloaded it at 65%. It's ok for me.

@@TheUlmstar83 it's actually a good thing that it does see something off like that as it could potentially cause bigger problems if it did not place limits on it. Hello. Wouldn't it be a good idea to install a charge control chip in the batteries to prevent overcharging and overdischarging? that would make that even if the iPhone tries to charge it above the voltage it will not allow it. And don't let the battery cells go below a certain voltage either.
@vuaeco

In theory, yes. But in this case, no. I don't even use the "lightning" port to charge the phone any more as I can just plug it on my own XT30 connector on the back and charge it 10 times faster. That "lightning" port is not so lightning any more, it's obsolete. So if I don't use it, I don't have to worry about it overcharging my battery. As for over discharge, I'll talk about it when I post an update video later on.

@@vuaeco Interesting. That’s good, seems like it’s put together well enough to not draw attention. I think it’s the things with extra wires hanging out where they shouldn’t usually be that gets their attention most of the time for me. I’ve never had any real issues, just a couple times where they take some extra time to check all my stuff out. I can’t blame them, when I’ve peeked at the X-ray monitor my bag has looked like it’s full of poorly made bombs with all the battery cells and chaotic mess of wires lol.

Man you should put a Fan or some kind of thermal separation between the phones and cells, the heat is gonna kill the cpu

Maybe the percentage display isn’t accurate because they aren’t calibrated. I heard that by charging it and discharging it a couple of times, the board will learn it’s capacity.

The voltage is also used to Display the % so it shouldnt be inacurate

@@Galax2000 the voltage actually don't play all too much in it. The ic On the BMS records all the charges and discharges and uses that to scale the capacity to the actual use.

So I guess it can be called a mini tablet now. And since it's an older iphone, the girth can be sort of justified. The TSA people are quick to point fingers :( My aunt lost a new apple laptop to them because she covered it in black satin material so it wouldn't slide on her lap while typing. Never got it back. $2500 down the drain. I probably would have just made an external enclosure for the batteries and spray painted the thing to look like the iphone's shell. Then double-sided tape it to the phone, or magneted it as well as include metal terminal ends like inside the original internal battery for simple removal.

U gotta edit some stuff in the system settings, cause it's not an official battery and especially not the same capacity, and for that u'll need root. Not sure if u can do so on iphone, but not that hard on android.

My new samsung phone came with 6000mah battery & gives 13-16hr screen on time basically goes on for 3 days without charge. The older honor 6x had a spicy pillow and also the screen cracked so i only use it as a webcam for my pc and so have this same exact mod done to it but with 18650 cell holder and 2100mah generic china battery cus the bms board is made for lithium hv cells which is 3.8v nominal and 4.3v fully charged so it overcharges the 18650 but it has been like this for 2yrs now and haven't exploded 💀

you can safely charge most 18650 cells to 4.35 volts it will just reduce the actual life time of the cell. going over 4.35 is actually where it gets risky. 4.15 to 4.25 is the general charge for a 3.7 volt nominal cell.

I charge my IMR cells for my mods to 4.3 volts all the time. they don't last as long over a course of several months but honestly I could care less because after about 4 to 6 months the cells generally have degraded to much to even care. 0.15 ohm loads eats them up.

PRO TIP u can use older phones pouch cell battery - they are way smaller than 21700 (21700 is high output cell) then u can get 2-3+ times more capacity in older phone with only adding 5-6mm of the thickness
