He is ridiculously good for this dungeon, for sure

I would love to have enough resources to do that! It is definately doable, but with all of the events in-game I've just not been able to invest in the rares required to give it a try!

That is sadly the nature of this game at the moment. Nearly everyone is trash for most content. You need specific rares or epics if you have no legendaries in order to do stuff. Otherwise you will need absolutely godtier gear. (which you cant get without the previously mentioned specific heroes) Not being negative just truthful. I like the game but it is a huge flaw. 3 non legendary tanks are actually usable. 3 rare dps, 2 rare healers, 1 rare cleanser for debuffs, 2 rares cleansers for buffs. Only 1 common is useful for anything. They literally serve no purpose at all in this game. For a short get lucky guide. if the boss does debuffs get tia then find figure out how to fully book her and get her in skill haste gear. Boom no more debuff problems. If the boss has a shield get twitch and do the same. Boom no more shields. If you dont have furbath or garrius pull until you get furbath or garrius. The entire game is designed with them in mind if you dont have legos. The free tank can do it too with multiple healers on the team.

The unfortunate reality is yes, Frurbath is ridiculously good, but a lot of people also have him - so he can't be ignored, IF he was a Legendary it would be much easier to write him off as unobtainable and not consider using him in content though.
