It's time to make this Dresden block bloom into a Sunflower! Charm pack squares turn into an easy Dresden plate block with the help of the Flag Day Tumbler Template by Susan Ache. This easy project idea is a great way to dabble in applique, and Kimberly shows how you can do it with just a regular rotary cutter and simple straight stitch.

I too would like more pillows. I love making blocks, and like to try different block patterns. Your tip about using your hand to spin the block is very interesting. I'm going to try it! I'm not a big applique quilter, so seeing straight stitch on an applique project is very inspirational!

Yes that’s Lori Holt’s method…to sew on the line which is easier than cutting on that line. Then trim and turn.

I've never used the blanket stitch on my machine but like the look. Where exactly do you start for the stitching to look right? This newbie has learned a lot from your videos. Started "teaching" myself during covid and yours was the first I found.

Wow, I just downloaded the pattern using my laptop. Q: pattern says to trim at 17.5 inches. So what size pillow form should I purchase please? Delighted as can make something fun using the new template I recently got in my So Sampler box and make a much needed fall pillow. What a perfect choice! Hello! The dresden technique may still work, but the size of the Dresden wedge and number of wedges you need to finish the block will likely be different.

Why does the bobbin need to be the same color?

Hello MsAngie! The bobbin is typically the same color as the top thread because your machine tension will never remain perfect. If the colors are the same you don’t notice the change in tension, but if the colors are different then the bobbin can get pulled to the top or the top thread can get pulled to the bottom showing the two colors.
