I never thought about using rawhide dog bones to make rawhide glue. Brilliant idea, and a lot cheaper than buying a bottle of rawhide glue! You did a great presentation on how strong rawhide is compared to wood glue, and how easy it is to unglue something that has been rawhide. There's a reason why luthiers make musical instruments with rawhide. Rawhide also allows a luthier in repairing instruments by allowing them to unglue a part of it with little effort or risk of damage to the instrument itself. Wow, you blew my mind! Never have I thought you could make that glue with dog bones. Smart!

This glue made from leather has been in use for hundreds of years, and is well known to the best woodworkers. It does indeed have properties that are superior to modern glues once dry, but also some drawbacks (long setting time, sensitive to humidity, and the smell is awful). It is reusable - if a joint comes unglued, apply moisture and let it sit for a while, then clamp the joint back and let it dry. The best glue is made from rabbit skins, though I admit in modern society rawhide is much easier to obtain. Also one secret if you want to make it impervious to water: add a small percentage of a chromium salt, and once it cures dry it will become insoluble and not be affected by moisture anymore.
