Thanks! Having watched SEVERAL of these bottle holder videos, I've adopted & "evolved" the designs to make one which is ROCK-SOLID. Your arced design has just completed it PERFECTLY for me! Length = 300 mm Width = 90 mm Thickness = 45 mm Hole = 190 mm from bottom 33 degree mitre

I have Chip, my life-sized, articulated wooden robot. But a huge Woody to act as a decor statement piece would be pretty awesome! The drilling scene you're referring to is actually as it appears. That close-up shot is the back side of the hole. I drilled most of the way through from one side then turned it over to complete the hole (and prevent tearout). So it actually only drilled about 1/16" before the spurs cut through and pushed the disc you see down to the table. Thanks for watching.

Welcome back Steve! If that's the real Steve? Didn't sound like the Steve I heard before. Wow, that is a nice big shop. Hope you left at least one space for the wife's car! Will they still stand up as the bottle gets near empty! Great video just in time for gifts!
@SteveFrenchWoodNStuff
@SteveFrenchWoodNStuff 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! If the mostly-fluent speech threw you off, rest assured that I'm still a pretty severe stutterer/stammerer. It's rare that I can talk even remotely this well. And this was with a bunch of takes (and it was all downhill afterwards). No, this only works with a full to mostly-full bottle. Once the contents lessen, the center of gravity begins to shift, eventually putting it off balance. But you do have some adjustment room, allowing it to work with a couple glasses worth missing (depending on serving size, of course). Concerning the wife's car: I'd give her the entire space if I could. But, truthfully, the only reason I lost the last shop is because we had a falling out and I had to move out. So, while it's nice that car parking is not a concern, it's also very disappointing that her car parking isn't a concern. Thanks for watching.

Wood 'n' Stuff w/ Steve French Well I didn't want to highlight the excellent speech too much after watching sooo many years of your videos. But thought you had done something while you were on hiatus, because it sounded different! Yea I thought the balance might be disrupted after consumption - haha. Thought I would ask though, cause I've learned "stuff" from you that I didn't t know before. Anyway, thanks for the reply and glad you were able to get into Nice big shop! Tell woody we missed him also.

Nice batch work Steve. Looking good. Hope to see you more often now. Are you going to tell us about the wall construction and give a new shop tour in the future? JimE
@SteveFrenchWoodNStuff
@SteveFrenchWoodNStuff 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Jim. I'm not sure my showing the insulating and sheathing of the walls is something many people would really find very interesting. I don't generally like making filler videos for the sake of getting a video out. I don't think many people would care enough to want to watch me do a bunch of "mundane" stuff. So, I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. I've had enough requests for a shop tour (including requests from the past, which I never acted upon). So I'll most likely do a shop tour once I start setting things up. And I'll probably make a video when I construct some interior walls that I have in mind.
@blackemmons

@SteveFrenchWoodNStuff 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, I appreciate your comment. I did a review video on the saw back in July: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qbRgYLKirreYZ5s.html Honestly, I really like it. I've only used it on a couple projects so far (because I was between shops most of last year), but it will definitely appear in a lot more videos in the future. It turns out that a sliding compound miter saw is an extremely useful tool. And the blade on this one cuts like a dream.

Dear Steve, good to see you back and congratulations on the new shop (wish I had a new shop...that size). I have to admit I 'thumbed-down' your video and here's why: Although your project looks great and you executed it with your typical panache, it's utterly useless. You can only 'present' the wine (or put it on show) with this holder...once the bottle is open, you can't use it. Also, with any red wine over a few years of age, all the sediment will move to the neck of the bottle...just where you don't want it. Have you seen similar (curved) bottle holders, where the bottle is held with the neck of the bottle slightly above the horizontal? This type allows you to present the wine at the table (with the sediment at the bottom), and once you've filled a couple of glasses, you can put the bottle back in the holder and sit and admire it while you're drinking the wine. Looking forward to the next video though...
@SteveFrenchWoodNStuff
@SteveFrenchWoodNStuff 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting, David! Many people like this style of holder for purely aesthetic reasons. And really, how often - in a group setting - is wine opened and then re-corked? It's not meant to be an end all/be all item; just a novelty. Personally, I made these because it was a requested project and because it's something to sell that people will buy (I've already sold two from this batch). I do appreciate your feedback. Thanks for the support!
