In this video I show how to use inexpensive tactical MOLLE bags as motorcycle crash bar bags by attaching them with the snap straps and some velcro. I use water proof sacks for my tools and puncture kit to keep everything dry. This is demonstrated on KTM 390 Adventure and BMW R1200GS crash bars. The links for the bags, dry sacks and velcro straps can be found below.

Great video. I bought the same bags and love them. Tools on one side and patch kit on the other side. Much better than under seat.

A man after my own heart. There is some great kit available from the 'names', but the prices here in the UK are scary. I much prefer to find alternatives like this if I can. Thanks Matt, great idea.

Newbie here. Bought the 390ADV a few months back as my first motorcycle. Loving your videos so far, already ordered the GIVI windscreen and the bar risers. Any chance you could do a video of the contents of your tool bag and puncture kit seen in this video? Thanks

Hey Matt great video. Do you have any plans to share what exactly you carry in your toolkit for the 390? I would be very curious
@advmatt
@advmatt 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have been asked for that several times. I will get the video done and posted in the next few weeks to show what I carry.

I'm always looking for accessories from non-traditional sources. I have a great, large fanny pack I keep on my Ducati wrapped on my pillion seat and a large, completely waterproof bag I use on occasion. Both wete found at Marshall's and picked up for a small fraction of what similar gear would sell for on motorcycle sites. I've been looking for bags for the crash bars on my 390 ADV. FWIW on my Ducati I keep my tools on the right side. Someone suggested if you have a mechanical issue on the road, having your tools on the right puts you away from the traffic lane a bit more. Thought that made sense.

Great ideas. I really like the tool bag location. I think I will switch mine. I am always looking for cheaper luggage solutions. The fanny pack is a great idea. I was using a small backpack strapped to the back.

@@advmatt I lucked out and found one that was a bit larger than a usual fanny pack (yeah I know our UK friends laugh at that term, and why). It was also slightly triangular so it looks iike it was designed for the bike and the belt buckles under the seat. Best $10 spent ever and I wish I had bought two.

I find I'm riding the KTM more than my Harleys and Himalayan now. After I changed the oil this week, I found that the teeny-weeney tool bag under the seat was woefully inadequate!* I searched for this vid and found it. Thanks for the vid, S * Well yeah, I knew it was small, but COME ON! ;)

Same here, choose to ride the 390 before my 1200GS. Much easier to ride and more fun. Glad you found this helpful.

The large size bags have a different attachment type on the back, so they can't be "hung" from the upper rail of the crash bar. They may still work for some, but without those small push clips that are attached to the bag, I can't see how.

Hi Matt, Are those the original ktm crash bars from the dealer? Have you dropped the bike? Do they work well protecting the sides? I have seen alternative crash bars from Givi un Sw Motech. Not sure which to buy.. What are your thoughts?
@advmatt
@advmatt 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, these are the KTM factory crash bars. I havent dropped the bike, but I think these bars are fine. I am trying not to spend too much money modifying this bike so my plan is to keep these bars. If your bike doesnt have any, I think anything is better nothing.
