Yesterday, Synthesia - a synthetic avatar company - raised their series C $90M at $1 Billion valuation.
I've been watching this space mature over the last few years - being an introvert, I don't like to be recorded and the thought that I can just type or do an audio recording to make myself talk on screen sounds AMAZING.
To make a custom avatar on Synthesia costs US$1000 per year and you need to go to a studio with a green screen to do it. Seems like a chunk of change to spend just to mess around with tech that will inevitably evolve very quickly over the coming months.
Here is a $199 alternative called HeyGen.
Our lab got access to this a while ago and have been testing it. The entry level - Avatar Lite - is a lot more affordable and they can create this kind of quality 👇 with only 2 mins of video without a green screen. You can still remove the background and overlay the avatar on top of a video quite effectively. (no affiliations!)
They also offer the $1000 option just like Synthesia but I really like how they have an entry level option.
