I love videos that teach you ways to save money and make the stuff yourself. Honestly if you ask me they are crafting angles that bless us with knowledge to help us not have to buy unbelievable prices on stuff. Thank you Marsha I really appreciate your videos because I poor and can't afford to but the really expensive stuff out there, so thanks a million, God Bless You and Your Family Always. Angles come from God they are there to guide you and help you on your journey even your crafting journey and this woman is definitely one of them.

I've just mixed up two colours and tried on paper and so far it's fantastic and all its cost me is the little cosmetic containers from the $2 store. Will use on the textured canvas tomorrow hopefully. Just gessoed it.

Who would have thought it, just body lotion and glue? With mica powder of course? I have watched many tutorials on making your own guilding wax with wax or shoe polish, and their finished results never looked as good and bright as yours. I definitely will have a try at making your version thank you so much 😀❤️

Thanks for showing us how to make this! I'm assuming the gold is like PearlEx, like shiny mica dust? (I use PearlEx as facial blusher with a puff brush). Maybe another way one could gild is to apply it directly to the embossing folder on the raised part, then when it is embossed it will transfer. You'd have to scrub it off the embossing folder, though, a lot harder than washing your finger.

to get Pearlex onto raised areas using Emb.folders, you'd have to apply it to the debossed (recessed) side of the folder...a useless venture!! It's easy enough to remove with warm soapy water, from the folder...just impossible to get it to stay on plastic. What you can do is apply an embossing medium (such as VersaMark or Ranger's distress embossing medium, or another brand) to the pre-embossed cardstock (this is not heat embossing with a heat gun/heat tool). Hold embossing pad, & very carefully apply it to the raised surfaces. Using a soft mop brush, lightly dipped into Pearlex, dust areas you've touched with the embossing pad. This mediium will hold Pearlex in place. If you want to seal, use an acrylic spray sealer...but you may not find it necessary. This technique looks best on intense coloured cardstock...black, indigo, dark blue, red, etc. Pearlex is an inert mica powder. It's non reactive, so something needs to hold it in place. If using water, pearlex will brush off when the water is dry. It can be used with PVA type, white craft glues to create an acrylic pearlescent dimensional glue/paint, such as Perfect Pearls, etc. Or you can mix with Gum Arabic to create an irridescent watercolour paint. You can also create embossing powders for heat embossing, using superfine clear embossing powder & a good measure of Pearlex. Always be mindful when using fine particles of any sort, spraying or dusting, they aren't good for our lungs!
@jennymullins593
@jennymullins593 5 жыл бұрын
Nancy, if you applied it to the raised parts, and if it was even possible, you'd find that the Pearlex would've transferred to the back of your cardstock, not the front which is raised...& the powder would not remain there without a medium to keep it in place :)

You've actually made gold acrylic paint, NOT gilding wax. Gilding wax is solvent based, & the white craft glue (PVA glue) is water based.

@geraldineentwistle3279 5 жыл бұрын
How do you make gilding wax then Jenny?
@jennymullins593
@jennymullins593 5 жыл бұрын
I think it's a bit more complicated. I worked in 2 art shops over a period of 12+ yrs, so I'm making a somewhat 'uneducated' guess, with the knowledge I have, of certain products. I DO know that gilding wax smells 'solvent' based...so it's fumes are noxious, & not good for us to breathe in...meaning you need to work in a well ventilated area with no heaters on! If you mixed a solvent-based wax varnish (it won't be water-soluable), with an irridescent (sparkly, but not glitter) pigment powder, you'd theoretically have a gilding wax. I'm still working on reconstituting some of my dried pots of Cosmic Shimmer's gilding wax. A stunningly beautiful product, but solvent based things do have a tendency to evaporate. I'd like to avoid using Odorless Solvent, but may have no other choice.
@tasst2674
@tasst2674 5 жыл бұрын
Not all gilding wax is solvent based. Crafters companion has introduced WATER BASED gilding wax. No smell at all and you can use it like a watercolor paint. Lovely colors too.
@jennymullins593
@jennymullins593 5 жыл бұрын
If you can paint with it like a watercolor, technically it isn't wax. A true gilding wax is water resistant...& therefore, only able to be diluted by a solvent. That's possibly why it's so expensive. I don't understand why manufacturers introduce products, randomly naming them without bearing in mind it's difference from the original product being mimicked. It's still a beautiful looking finish...just call it something else so those who aren't aware won't be confused. Generally speaking, water-based aren't as dangerous as solvent based. True gilding wax should be used in a well-ventilated area, with no heating in the room, & skin ought to be protected by using gloves, as your skin absorbs what you expose it to. I simply cut single fingers off a latex glove, so I don't waste a whole glove (and my hand doesn't have to get hot & sweaty!). And sorry, but true gilding wax does have a distinctive odour.
