That was a really cool tutorial. I especially like how you made the wrinkles. The fangs were a nice touch. When it comes to hair, I do a lot of Myers masks so when it comes to rehairing I’m using camel hair. Your mask turned out great. I’ve gotta get back into the diy mask community.

This is great just wondering. I'm trying to make star wars cad bane mask with a moving mouth area..would making a mask the way you have here with added latex on the mouth area for the movement work? The way you make the masks here is perfect for what I need to do for my cosplay..but just need a movable mouth area.sorry long message just wondered if it would work
@jasperjanderson
@jasperjanderson 2 жыл бұрын
You won't be able to get as much movement as a silicone mask, but you can cut the jaw and get a simple nutcracker style movement. Latex doesn't really stretch as much as you might think, but give it a try.

Do you let the plaster strips dry before adding the layers ofnpaper towels?
@jasperjanderson
@jasperjanderson 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it only takes about 15 minutes to set. I like the plaster bandage if the mask is going to be a decoration, but for a mask that you wear, I prefer the mask I did with a newspaper mache base. It's a little more comfortable.

As I discussed, it's just one way to do it. I've tried it the way you described, too. I think the best method is regular newspaper paper mache for the under structure. Plaster bandage is sold at craft stores and makeup effects supply stores.

I’m not sure what you’re describing. These are Gypsona plaster bandages, but you can usually find something similar at the craft store. It sounds like your plaster bandages might not have been cured yet. The paper towels are generic brand from Target, I think. Good luck! Send a pic of your finished mask on Insta/fb/email

Please make more mask videos. How could I atrach real horns or antlers on one if possible.
@jasperjanderson
@jasperjanderson 5 жыл бұрын
You'll want a good anchor to do that, and a firm mask structure. Just gluing them on top of the mask wouldn't be very strong, but if you give it a mechanical hold as well, you'll be in good shape. Maybe drill a hole in the back of the horn to fit a screw, then put the screw and washer into the mask from the back, and into the horn. Epoxy in/under the horn and over/under the head of the screw.

What do you use on Plaster bandage to stick it on the head
@jasperjanderson
@jasperjanderson 3 жыл бұрын
The trick is to get it to NOT stick. We want the plaster bandage to pull away from the head form when the mask is done. I painted on a layer of petroleum jelly to act as a release, but that may not be necessary for all clay types.

I wouldn't recommend vaseline on a mask, as it will tend to come off on anything it touches. Hair gel would work well, though, or hair spray, depending on the desired effect. A more permanent option would be acrylic gloss or crystal clear.
