Thank you for sharing! This is a great help/aid to many girls/teens especially in rural areas where sanitary towels are expensive and hard to come by. Will definitely work on it with school girls in near future project. Lots of blessings.

PUL is waterproof fabric . I bought mine at Hobby Lobby because Joann Fabric was out of stock. I got on a 40% off sale , I think was about $4.19 per yard on sale.

You should use absorbing towelling for the lining. Terri towelling? They use it in waterproof sheets, I that's what they use in the commercially made pads

Very few pad makers use toweling. Most use Zorb or bamboo fleece

Hi. Just wondering. You mentioned cotton and polyester batting like the kind you use for quilting? I thought one should use cotton flannel or hemp cotton. I like your pattern.

I was wondering what type of water proof cloth you would use for the backing? I have looked many places but not seeing what I think would work for this

I haven’t searched for this, but it might give you a direction. Someone recommended using a type of fleece for jackets that was waterproof on one side. That’s all I can remember, but I hope it gives you enough to do an internet search. I need to find this, too.

The backing material used in the video is PUL which is waterproof. Polyester fleece is also often used as a backer but that's a water resistent fabric and not waterproof. There is lots of online info on which materials are good to use for cloth pads, and there are facebook groups as well. Happy sewing!

There are a lot of videos for making pads. They are offering a program for making reusable padding for teens, so being unfamiliar initially with this title, I explored a bit online well everything turned out being feminine hygiene product. Not pot holders cushions shoulder inserts etc.

Hi there. I have a question... Will this pattern style not leak??? Will this pattern style work for medium flow bleeders?????

You can extent the shape a bit for a heavier flow and maybe add extra layer of lining

Hello, thanks for sharing this. My only concern is that the person has to carry around a used pad all day. Especially if you have an 8-hour workday. Most women have to change their pads. So what is the best way to handle that?
@mentalalchemysubliminals
@mentalalchemysubliminals 2 жыл бұрын
When you buy them you usually get a wet bag that you can put your used pads in and when you get home you rinse them. The wet bags are the same kind moms will use for their babies cloth diapers, so they are water/liquid proof and smell safe. I know it sounds a bit weird/cross, but I promise the wetbag is totally fine!

I would think you can adjust the pattern as needed, I am going to use a pattern for overnight, heavy flow and regular, as my periods use to be so bad I would have to affix 3 overnight pads together for day use and 4 for night use, this would have saved so much money and probably many great clothes that it ruined,

Would you use more batting for heavy flor and bladder leaks?
@stefaniedecoster2772
@stefaniedecoster2772 2 жыл бұрын
Batting is not a good choice for absobency as it does not absorb a lot and breaks down over time. Flannel is a great all-round fabric to use and it's easy to find. The pads will be really cheap and environmentally friendly if you make them from a flannel bedsheet from a second hand shop. Zorb is a special super absorbent fabric that is used in pads and nappies/diapers. So depending how bad the bladder leaks are that might be the best choice. It's really hard to find where I live in the Netherlands. So I mostly use cotton fleece. As I like to thrift my materials I tend to go to a charity shop and look at hoodies and sweatshirts/sweatpants/jogging bottoms. Those are often 100% cotton and the thicker material means it's cotton fleece rather than t-shirt material. Sweatshirt material that is at least 80% cotton should work well. For heavy flow and serious bladder leaks it is useful to have a waterproof backer. PUL (as used in the video) is the lightest and thinnest material I know for this. You might have to get creative in finding materials if you're not near a fabric shop. I happened to find a flannel waterproof pillow case in a shop. When I had a look at it I discovered it was PUL on the flannel and that makes a great backing fabric. PUL is generally slippery but not when it's put on flannel, so this stuff will stay in place much better. When I started making cloth pads I found the free Luna Wolf pattern, there are multiple sizes and good description and pictures of how to make them: lunawolf.co.uk/wordpress/ Corky Lorenz also makes really clear videos that are worth checking out. Happy sewing!

@stefaniedecoster2772

That would depend on how heavy the flow is. The batting used for the pad in the video is not a good option, it doesn't absorb much and de batting breaks down over time. Flannel would be a much better option. There is lots of info online on how many layers of different materials to use for low/medium/heavy absorption.

Can not be too thin, needs to be a bit fluffy so it's more absorbant. Try to stay away from polyester and go for a higher percentage of cotton

Batting is not a good option, it doesn't absorb a lot and breaks down over time. Flannel is a great option, als cotton fleece is great. Most sweatshirts/sweatpants/jogging bottoms are made from this material but you have to check the label.

@@CurlyMade Doctors warn against using cloth pieces during the menstrual cycle because germs remain stuck in the cloth even after washing and exposing the sun and lead to some diseases, some of which are dangerous So I think it can be used as a good way to protect clothes from dirt when wearing Sanitary towels are also great as a daily pad ✨🤍
