For anyone that is interested and is having a hard time with the arms: I found a bit of an easier way for beginners. I made the arms separate from the body because it made it much easier to make them and then sew them on with yarn. Also I kept finding that my arms were oddly shaped so here is the pattern I used that made it more proportional: CH 2 SC 6 around SC twice in each stitch Crochet in back loops for 6 then front for 6 1 SC in each x 5 rounds Continue with normal pattern.

Thankyou so much for taking the time to make this tutorial. I was inspired to learn to crochet from your Altair doll linked from Kotaku. This sackboy was the first thing I've ever crocheted and I think it turned out really well thanks to your good instructions. Thanks again!!

First off your videos are well done and your sackboys are so detailed! ^_^ I've been crocheting amigurumi for a while and something that helps when you're closing up a shape is to do a running stitch through the last 6 stitches, pull tight, then tie it off and hid the tail of the string. It makes the bottom really secure and close tighter so you can hardly tell! Hope this helps. ^_^

Thanks so much :D I learned it from my mom who learned it from a friend of hers. I started when I was in elementary school. Actually, I learned how to knit first and then I got more interested in crocheting. My sister is more into knitting than I am. I'm actually thinking of creating some knitting tutorials...I'm not sure yet. I only know how to make scarves..lol. Cool, your mom should make YT tutorials :)

I crocheted this for my brother. Although at first I did the things in the reversal of the obvious( I picked up puffy yarn, though the size of the doll became bigger and now its teddy-bear-like) my brother is happy:)

I'd like to thank you very much for this tutorial. I've made my first sack boy, and he's looking fantastic, especially for my first one. The only real problem I had (apart from using too small of yarn, which lead to making a really small but cute sackboy) were the fingers. Your video on that was helpful but I still had to improvise, meaning my sackboy only has three fingers (mostly it was my fault because of the thin yarn). All in all, great tutorial, I'll use it again to make a bigger one.

Hi, I'm very confused on step 14 of the written tutorial and video. When you say chain 1 and then turn the work around, repeat what was done in the first row, what do you mean by that? I have done the: 2 sc in each sc for a row, then 1 sc in each sc for a row. So should I then do: 2 sc in each sc for a row, then 1 sc in each sc for a row, chain 1 and then turn the work around, repeating the steps of: 2 sc in each sc for a row, then 1 sc in sc for a row, chain 1 then turn the work around, until I have 13 rows. OR Should I then do: 1 sc in each sc for a row, chain 1 then turn the work around, repeating the steps of: 1 sc in each sc for a row, chain 1 then turn the work around, until I have 13 rows. Thank you

@randompocketsand I don't actually know. I haven't really incorporated them into the design of the doll. If you have a string long enough, you can take a needle and take it to the top of the head and make a loop for the key chain ring.

for starting the arm, i'm unclear about the first line of stitches, when you go around, to make the circle do you stitch on two rows or do you make the circle just from one row. hope that made some sense, help is greatly appreciated

Hey, I have a question about crocheting the arms. At 5:45, when you say to crochet and repeat for 2 rows, do you mean sc one in each stitch or 2 sc in each stitch, like how you were doing in the row before.

Mine keeps wanting to spiral. Is that normal? And how do you make really tiny fingers? Mine only need to be about two stitch widths, but it is way too small to see what I am doing. I just made the hands like mittens then defined them later with a darker thread.

Please respond :) Im confused about the part where you begin crocheting the arm; when you say 6sc in the front loops, are you reffering to the inner loops or the outer loops? Likewise with the next 6sc. Thanks.

Um, at 2:19 you say ch 2 and do a slip stitch to continue the body then 2 ch together until you reach the marker but you do not have one and I took mines out too so I am confused. Is that the beginning of the round where the chain and zipper are.

Hi, I tried replaying the video a bunch but im still not sure what you mean by backloops for the top half and the frontloops for the bottom half. Is this the same as the inner loops for the top half and outsideloops for the bottom half (where outside and inner refer to the circle)? And is it just those two rows where you stitch into a single loop or do you continue this for the whole arm? Thanks for making these videos =)
