🔮 More about the video:
Portfolio design can be tricky. Many people go with trusted templates, while some try to be creative and build complex, robust websites. I believe you shouldn’t go too far either way, as the main reason for your portfolio and for your portfolio design is to deliver your work to the eyes of the recruiters and clients. In this video I’ll take you step by step through a process of designing your UX/UI portfolio, share what not to do and what to focus on based on hundreds of portfolios I evaluated this year.

Without Michal I would be working my customer support job with no dreams and purpose because I just felt actually getting a design job would be so hard. He makes it seem attainable as long as you do the work which isn't that hard. Now, I'm still working my support job, but I have put together work and am continually working. I was turned down by my current job for a UX position, but I will find another. Thank you, Michal.

That is amazing to hear! Don't worry about initial rejections, it takes a while to realize what exactly your strenghts are and push them forward in a way that engages. Besides, I've seen that poster you did in Sketch, the graphics design skills are definitely there and that can be very helpful with UI's! Are you on our Slack group by the way?

Don't get me wrong - you can have an "impressive" portfolio and still be effective - it's just really difficult to pull off. For juniors it's best to be effective first and foremost - focus on showing your work and a big, visible way of getting in touch with you :)

That's always a difficult question - if you're mostly motivated to get a UX/UI job I'd even say combine all the other types of projects into a separate sub-page and call it "other work" with a nice thumbnail - just so it doesn't get too confusing for the recruiters.

what a coincidence. I was starting to work into my portfolio. since I can code some cool things, I can do 3d. and things like that.. I never finish it. so, I'm now following your advice and I'm trying to just present my work the cleaner as possible. and if I need to put some sugar into it. iterate into it. and don't wait it to be perfect to launch. I ve lost so many time working in my portfolio that I could have improved my UI skills doing actual projects. By the way. how can I present myself as a developer/design. am I a creative coder, UI Developer, UX Engineer? I don't feel confident saying I'm a "unicorn" or something like that XD

Yeah it's tempting to go all crazy with portfolios and focus on the how and not the WHAT - but in reality people are coming to the site for the WHAT, so if the HOW is obstructing the WHAT they leave ;)

You said create a one-page portfolio and don't have any links going to subpages ...but then at the same time you said add thumbnails 🤔

By "one page" I mean you don't need a separate ABOUT ME and CONTACT pages - but yes, case studies need to be separate pages. Sorry for being unclear.

would this be similar to what is taught in the "How to build a case study" in your courses from Hype4Academy?

That depends, you can use wix, squarespace, webflow, readymag or others - just find one that's easiest to work with for you.

Hi Michal. Thanks for all the advice. I wonder if you do have any portfolio review service which I can buy, except the one Ui feedback session you have on the Gumroad? Or maybe you know any reliable similar service that you could suggest. I feel I really need an expert to look at it and give me a list of all the mistakes I have on mine.

I do free portfolio reviews on this KZfaq channel every two weeks - as a livestream. If you follow me here and on Twitter you can submit your portfolio using a form that I share a week before each of the streams - I do the first 10-15 portfolios submitted per session.

@@MalewiczHype Thank you very much. I just followed you on Twitter, and I will def do that. However, is there any one-on-one paid session, so I get more in-depth guidance?

I don't really do 1on1 video sessions at the moment (too much going on) - I do feedback rounds though (very detailed ones) and the one on Gumroad is exactly that - a loooot of comments on what works , what doesn't , why , how to improve etc.
