My first ever experience with a laser was in a technical school. It was a 60 watt Universal laser engraver. I have been fascinated with them ever since. Now the technology is advanced enough where anyone can purchase a system. But which system to buy? There are many things to consider. Price, what to engrave, size, what comes with it, extras, shipping costs and one I think most of us think about is how to start a business engraving. One laser that is close to the universal which can engrave circular objects is the Epilog system. Both run using your computer and an Ethernet cable or other connections. The rotary attachment for the Epilog will only work with the Zing 24 not the 16. A difference of around $3,000. Next I looked at possibly getting a Glowforge. They run from under $3,000 to just under $6,000. Not bad for 3 laser engraving systems. I watched video after video on the things a Glowforge can do. Engraving many different types of material. Pretty much any system can engrave the same materials as any others. Except a fiber laser. The things they don’t tell you about the Glowforge is the entire engraving system is run using their proprietary app online and servers. One lightning storm later and you have a $6,000 doorstop. That is until they get their servers back online. Wow, if you’ve read this far then I must made a few good points. Also with the Glowforge, you can purchase projects from their online store. You can’t print from an application to your engraver. All must be done through the online app.......... Now I see this one engraving system called a Full Spectrum Laser. What does this thing have that the others do/don’t? (There are the Chinese K40 systems but just remember, you get what you pay for) This system has many different types of power levels and cutting beds. Muse and others I forgot about. The Muse is a system I could afford after a complete season as a professional Santa. These systems run from under $3,000 to just over $7,000 depending on what extras you purchase. I think all 3 of the Muse systems can use the rotary attachment. ROTARY ATTACHMENT!?!? Holy $#!¥!?! I need to come up with around $10,000 just to use one with the Epilog. Glowforge, fugetaboutit! They are not compatible with a rotary attachment. The Muse 3D or 2D with a riser and rotary attachment for about $895 will make any person complete for any laser engraving business. I’m not saying the first Muse is not the way to go but the other two come with the cooler and other things the first one doesn’t. The first one is just over $2,000 and perfect for anyone. (Rememberer the Glowforge starts around a little over $2,000 but you can only print using their app and servers) The Glowforge has 3 different power levels from 30 watt, 40 watt and 45 watt. The FSL systems are upgradable from starting at 40 watts to 45 watts for I think around $250. I will be interested in purchasing a Muse 2D or 3D after Christmas season should I earn enough this year. (Rotary attachment is used for engraving wine flutes for weddings, shot glasses, Pilsner glasses, other round objects). I found this video the most influential for FSL systems. I haven’t seen very many as I have been watching videos for the Glowforge. Rotary attachment!!! Thanks for the information. Santa Howard

‪I purchased a Muse 3d laser engraver. it did not work when I received. After 10 days, FSL decided it is a bad unit. I asked RETURN for refund, they charged me for 2 way shipping & restocking fee for accessories. I lost almost $1200, without any mistake by myself. Lesson learned!!‬

I'm looking to buy a good laser very soon, but I have questions that have never been answered. One, what is the minimum/maximum amount of power needed to cut with one pass 1/2" of hardwood? And hardwood plywood? What dies the edges look like? Do they need to be sanded? How about 3D laser cutting for wood? What is needed to clean them up? Will all be able to etch/cut/carve round or cylindrical objects? This will help me to choose the right tools for my future projects. Also, what are the pros and cons of water vs air cooled?

How loud is it and can you do large projects as you can via Glowforge Pro?

Would you recommend muse 3D laser or ps24? How’s their software and is it easy friendly. Muse laser really are not popular, I’ve search so many place and only a handful made a video about it. Now I am hesitant but love the fact they have rotary attachment.

What exhausts system are you running? I have the same machine and a fsl 100 exhaust system but I cut it stinks really bad

Does the laser cut through acrylic I know it’s a dumb question LOL. I remember you mentioned that it goes through quarter inch wood so acrylic should be no problem.

Can I engrave a 5/8" bamboo cutting board on this machine? The most I have done is 1/4"

I just ordered mine. Can't wait. Would you do some videos to help with the power and speed settings on various materials? Lightburn has cut, engrave and image P&S so you can just select it for your plywood, acrylic etc. Also, glowforge has the QR code on it's materials. This is the only complaint I have with FS. I would really like at least a place to start with setting when I receive my machine. Thanks. Good video.

Nice review, but that first item you show....the engraving is so charred, it's ridiculously bad and would require tons of sanding.
