In this video I'll be making & debugging my granulated BP that will be mostly used for the lift in 4" firework shells, it's filled up with quite a bit of information about this process so I definitely would recommend watching it. Also, I decided to level up this video by adding subtitles (gaddamn they took a while to type in), which will ensure you understand what I'm saying since I had my mask covering my mouth, let me know if you enjoyed those. For sure subscribe to catch the next videos on my channel since I have some nice ones coming out! Please leave a like to show support if not a problem :)
P.S. This process gets you really fast BP, this time I just had a bit 'rotten' oxidizer to bear with but still managed to get decent results in the end.
See realy fast BP here with same process and proper oxidizer: bit.ly/38LvVkY

I have made perfectly good lift powder without milling. You just need very fine powders and granulate it nicely. I can barely tell the difference once it has been suitably used in a way that creates good pressure so the shells must be well fitting.

It isn't only the oxidiser percentage m&d it is the charcoal type and the granule method you use! Try to press it in press let it dry and the crush it use willow charcoal and 62 20 18 ratio and 3% dextrin but the ball mill time will be more ! 10 hours (recommend-optimal)👍 great video thumps up!

As I've already mentioned, many factors yet to discover. Haven't done different granulations & proportions for BP yet, but I'm sure that can also be one of these factors. Cheers & I agree with you.

When I make mine, I only run it though the screen once. However I do ball mill the meal powder for at least 3 days to a week. When I first made BP, thats what I found very interesting. Like after 1 day of ball milling you look at the powder and don't think that milling it longer will do anything, but it does! Like after 1 day, it burns ok, after 2 days, it gets a little better, but when its been milling for 4 days to a week, that shit burns super fast. Sure its alot of time to mill it, but saves you on the labor part of granulating it.

@@flarenator yeah i agree... that's nuts. and a colossal waste of time IMO. there's no reason why anyone should have to ball mill for longer than an afternoon to get BP that's fast enough for anything one could possibly need it for... again, just my opinion tho. to each their own!

I don't understand why different types of wood within the main hard/soft category make allegedly noticeable differences. I'm not doubting folks claims, but like pine vs cedar (dude making amazing BP said he noticed good results with even the cheapest soft woods) what the heck could actually be the factor? I can't imagine on a microscopic level there is THAT big of a difference between woods in char form. My gut tells me that it's a different variable that folks are attributing to the charcoal. I'm sure lots of dudes have used 2 different batches of S or oxidizer from the same source and changed the charcoal, but unless you use the exact same batch of each ingredient, well mixed, only changing the charcoal type, it would be impossible to tell for sure. Same exact, trusted source of reagents could have 2 varying batch qualities of the same ingredient, so I'm still scratching my head to figure out why and if willow, for example, is somehow superior. I feel like any given wood just happened to be the common source or charcoal for a given area that was known for master artisans, and they could have made equal quality booms with ANY wood

When I make my lift charge, I just use 100 1/2 inch marbles in a 3lb ball mill, with a eastern red cedar charcoal, I let it mill for 3-4 days and then granulate it, it burns so fast sometimes it looks like flash. Red cedar is one of the fasted charcoals I’ve used, the hardwood is mostly good for making tiger tail stars.

You need to ball mill all of your components together (75-15-10 plus none) Tell it feels like tacom powder in between your fingers. Then wet it with 100% h2o + 1 percent dextrin, do this until you have enough to incorporate into your batch of BP at a rate of 24% I mill enough BP so that I have 1000 grams or 1kg of powder then I do the following. knead into ball then press/rub thru a .25 mesh screen onto paper. Place into sun and sun dry in about 1 - 2 hours for a 1 kg batch. Enjoy.

Not sure what machine you're talking about but you'll definitely need precise measurements for this one. You could measure by parts (won't be as precise) with little spoon-like thing, for example 5% is one spoon, you'll need 15:3:2 spoons for BP mix and approximately add dextrin for granulation. Make sure you have read enough before going into pyro creations to stay safe :)

Nice work granulating but it definitely needs a better mill ratio. 50% of the mill jar needs to me media and just cover the media with comp thats the proper ratio for milling however slower powder is good for gugger shells like 5 inch canister with multi breaks. I personally dont use a binder or water I Luke isopropyl alcohol or denatured alcohol to wet. I do sometimes add 1.5% dextrin or sgrs to slow it a bit because it's to fast for my cakes.
