Lilo means lost in Hawaiian ,so the movie title “Lilo and Stitch” can be interpreted as “lost and pulled together”.

Also, in the scene where they fly in a plane passing some mountains, the mountains were originally buildings, but due to the events of 9/11 they decided to change it.

I have the original where she hides in the dryer. I miss the days where your parents told you what to do instead of corporations.

They also changed the entire flight fight scene early on. It was originally flying through skyscrapers, but a certain event occurred that made visuals of plains flying around sky scrapers incredibly taboo, so they reanimated most of the key visuals.

So, funnily enough, my COL 230 professor actually talked about the changes they had to make to Lilo and Stitch. He mentioned the scene with Stitch and the blender (he was originally gonna stick his hand in there), the "abduction" scene (where the two aliens were originally trying to *kill* Stitch), and the scene where the characters are flying a spaceship through the Hawaiian jungles (it was originally a plane flying through a city and even hitting planes. Guess what made them change that). He knows all this because he actually worked on Lilo and Stitch (I don't remember what he was, maybe clean up? But he worked on this and several other movies.) He now works at DigiPen Institute of Technology as a professor, and it's one of the last years he's gonna be helping art students with their course planning.

Lelo adopted an alien and in this scene was basically running for her life from her sister. I think it's safe to say desperate times deserve desperate measures.

As someone who has been stuck in the washing machine for the past 78 years I can confirm, this change was needed.

I still remember that she hid in a dryer and I did that once but I was still able to get out-

Leo and stitch came out way after I was born. As a Kid... I would always loved climbing in the dryer, especially when the clothes were still warm. They were just depicting what is already happening anyways. If your a parent of small ones, you pretty much know to check.

So apparently Israel had weight problems and died of Respiratory failure. It happens when something keeps your body from getting oxygen into your blood or getting carbon dioxide out of your blood. And in the music video you can see people of Hawaii releasing his ashes in the ocean. It’s really sad :(

As someone who did an autopsy on a toddler who who crawled into a front load washing machine and had the family cat hit the touch screen and turn it on... I approve this change. Now if you will excuse, need to go get a stiff drink because this memory is 7 years old, and still makes me feel like crap.

LILO and stitch had the worst message when it came to making friends and the kids of the show lilo was constantly bullied by her so called “friends “ and literally no one ever stood up for her or told her that friends don’t treat each other that way instead they let her get bullied in every movie and even in the show basically telling kids it’s ok to be bullied by your friends and to suck it up

fun fact: Lilo & Stitch originally featured a storyline about hijacking a plane, then crashing it into buildings. This was changed post-Sept. 11, even though most of the animation was complete.

I was always that kid who would sit in the dryer all the time. Of course with the door always open. But I would just sit in there especially when there were close left in there. It was comforting. My mom never had a problem with me being in there as long as the door was open. She eventually made me stop because I got too big.

Once there actually was a little boy in the wash machine, his mom didn’t know and turned it on. It was on the news a few years ago so yes, this is a good change. He survived but he had to go to the hospital, I don’t remember too much.

I remember once I got stuck in my family’s dryer in our garage. I just climbed and accidentally closed the door. It felt like I was in there for over an hour but I was in there for a few minutes, according to my mom, who helped me get out. I had no reason for climbing in except for curiousity

They really should give you the option to choose which version you want to watch.

Can confirm this one, my sis hid in a dryer after watching Lilo and stitch and someone accidentally started the dryer with her in it, she was only in a few seconds and was perfectly fine but I'm glad this change was made cuz we were definitely stupid enough to do it

The change was made to the original release in the uk. As it didn’t pass bbfc guidelines. It was just adopted elsewhere later

Reminds me of the fact that in a very early draft of Back to the Future the Time Machine was an old freezer or refrigerator but they thought kids would try climbing into them and get stuck so they changed it.

That's not a new edit, that was done for the original international release. I remember as a kid thinking that was an oven that they had put a pizza box over the front of it.

I approve! I hid in a dryer as a kid once during hide and seek and my abusive uncle threatened to turn it on. Left me in there for at least 10 mins. Anyway it's scary because I still couldn't have gotten out without him because it shut all the way and I couldn't push it open. That's how he found me screaming to get out. TERRIFYING 😭

Another one of these changes happened after 9/11 because they used to fly in a regular plane to fight the bad guy through the city but now they fight in a alien ship through the mountains and beach

My cat used to sneak in and lay in the dryer when she was younger and she was so tiny, she could be mistaken for clothes. One day while my mother was doing the laundry, she didn’t know the cat was in the dryer and accidentally turned it on. She heard the cat wail and ran quickly and turned it off and got her out of there. My cat was okay thankfully, but was leery about the dryer since then. So probably a smart move on Disney’s part since seeing Lilo in the dryer brought that to mind.

you forgot to mention the ending when Stitch, Nani, Jumba and Pleakley save Lilo was slightly more different then the version we got, it was heavily altered after a particular event that occurred at the time that made planes flying around tall buildings, skyscrapers getting destroyed, terrorists were really taboo back in 2001, so, they had to re-animate all the footage from scratch to avoid controversy from victims of said event

Once me and my aunt went to a laundromat and some girl was closing the door to a dryer that had her brother in it ( they were like 6-8), we told the worker there and turns out they were the workers kids. They later we’re running around and pushing each other in laundry carts, and their mom didn’t really seam to care.
