Why do people get mad at this scene? That was Allison and Claire's way to bond and Andrew already was intrigued by Allison. Throughout the film he tries to see her face, but her face is covered. So her hair pushed back and the dark eye liner gone, Andrew can admire Allison's features more.

Ism 58, now, and when I saw Ally sheedy for the first time, straight away, I thought, what a beautiful face that girl has. It sounds so stupid, but, I thought about her for sometime. Eventually you snap out of that type of stuff. But boy oh boy, what a stunning girl she is. Also I find it very sad, that all of those fine actors of the 1980s, don't act any more. Where are they all. St, Elmos, fire enougher classic example of the, chemistry, they all had together. Are they all sad now themselves, reminiscing about those times, Rob Lowe included. Do they still talk to each other, interesting don't you think.

These days a lot of people aren't happy with Allison's makeover from "goth". IMO, she wasn't "goth". Goths like the way they look. Allison looked like that because she hated herself. Look at the interaction in the morning when they were all being dropped off. She sat in the back seat and whoever dropped her never spoke to her. She probably never thought she would be worthy of having people like her. "why are you being nice to me?" She said thank you when Brian smiled at her after the makeover. When Andrew was staring at her she asked "What's wrong?" "Nothing. It's just that I can see your face." "Is that good or bad?"

i was 13 when the film came out and i was kind of like Brian, i was sort of nobody and worried or frightened of being bullied, i was actually very sweet and innocent i had no real style or clique or friends or whatever. my neighborhood and how i was growing up and the people around me though were Bender, and at 16 i myself became much more of a Bender. i loved the film and it meant a lot to me and i always appreciated this scene, but it also felt a little insulting towards the sort of stranger kids that in order to be bettered you had to blend into the more mainstream or whatever you want to call it. at the very end of my teens i started really becoming engulfed in what would best be referred to as the goth scene though i am reluctant to use that word. that scene or the term goth is far too misunderstood in far too many ways by far too many people. and starting in the early/mid 90s it started getting far over used and appropriated by people that had nothing to do with what it was in my time. i dont want this to come across as some im doing it right and you are doing it wrong thing, its just that the term got very sorrupted and meant different things to different people. and when the term is used most normal people on the street tend to picture a whole lot of things that i would cringe over, which is what i mean when i say i hesitate to use it. anyway that isnt the direction i meant for that comment to take. its just strange looking back and thinking how many of these characters i actually was and i wonder how many other people couldnt just sum themselves up as one of them, i suspect most. but at some point or other in our youth i think most of us could definitely identify with one of them, and maybe all of them at various times. which sort of goes to the point of how much we ALL have in common and tend to be unaware of or unwilling to see. i actually turn 49 tomorrow, if you saw me on the street now i am just a bland middle aged conservative man. we are not at all as bad as many of you are led to believe, i miss the days when we could actually talk and be civil and get along and realize how much we actually have in common despite our trivial or even just aesthetic differences.

I thought she looked better before when I was a kid, gothed out- and the make over is saying try to be like everyone else not unique. It’s like it’s trying to say there must be something “wrong” with her because she didn’t look plain Jane or like everyone - it WAS BS & I thought so at the time. Plus I was around their age when this movie was popular & I didn’t even like her shirt, that thing in her hair or the whole look - even for what it was supposed to represent it was boring & not really in style at least not at my school. I hate that part but I’m not a fan of the whole movie really. Too much cringe & cheese & cliche for me. By the way where in the hell did Ally Sheedy get the pink shirt? Did Claire bring a shirt with her lol.
