I'm half asian and since moving to the West Coast I go from white to burnt toast. Never thought that I would have to change my techniques since the Northeast isn't known for all year sun exposure so I definitely appreciate everything that you do for brown/people of color. PS you are so freaking beautiful...I can't wait to see the continued growth for you in social media. Very important for diversity instead of 20 shades of white *cough* *cough* Tarte

i have to agree with the fact that brown girls have to work harder to make their makeup look on point. beauty companies need to make more products that are more inclusive so that everyone can enjoy them. i’m quite light skinned so i don’t have the same problems but both my bestfriends are both beautiful dark skinned indian gurlies…def gonna share this video with them ❤️

Even Middle Eastern are brown people, hence the pigmentation. You don’t hear blacks say otherwise even if they have fair skin. European white mainly don’t have hyperpigmentation unless it’s a skin condition. Many might not even consider you fair. So your skin and an Asian persons skin isn’t any different. I’m black and I’m here cos the ladies skin tone is closer to mine but I don’t call myself a brown girl, but just black 😅

Your personality, beauty and creativity is 10/10, and I think it's amazing that you're representing and educating brown audiences about what actually works for them. Also, thanks for the concealer tip. I'm pale af but I have a neutral undertone and for some reason most concealers in my country are extremely yellow and make me look like sh*t. I'm going to try the pink powder thing.

I had the same problem with makeup and having brown skin and a greenish warm undertone. I am usually having to mix foundations, but that blue color mixer is awesome and works great. These tips are extremely helpful thank you. Now if i can only find a longwear shade that matches my skin and covers dark spots on cheeks.

I wish you were around 39 years ago! I've learnt so much from you.. Since my youth I could never find the right shade or type of foundation and concealer so I've never worn either my entire life. I'm totally clueless when it comes to picking the right shade.. even when I go to a make counter for assistance they always use shades that are far to dark for me or bring out my pigmentation making it look grey. And I can never find the right shade of 'nude' lipstick as they just don't look any good one me so I always end up going for bold shades! Please keep doing what you do, I've picked up so many tips from you! Thank you ❤🇬🇧❤

As a hobby artist I am so glad color theories and such are catching on! I personally think the color spectrum and language within the makeup industry is so outdated and narrow! Warm and cool undertones are too limiting, when neutrals and olives also exist. At this point I echo the sentiment on having fine artists becoming in charge of a makeup brand so we can have a plethora of shades more!

a great tip fo finding the depth of shades with out trying it on, take a picture in black and white and compare it to a picture of your face also in black and white. that's going to let u know if something is deep enough for you because in black and white you only see the value of the color not the shade. if it looks like the same value as ur skin or lighter then it'll probably wash you out! Thats color theory for you!

One great tip I figured out after some time was to put one small amounts of foundation, blend it in, then assess if I really need more. As a beginner years ago, I used to use the same amount of product that the beauty gurus used. I was so new to it that I thought it looked like too much because I was bas at makeup and couldnt blend it well like they did. I didnt use makeup often so I didnt practice as much so I always blamed my skill level. It took a pro mua talking about the difference between him doing makeup for the lights and photoshoots vs real life for me to realize. He debunked so many beauty guru things that made me realize how many ways I was being steered wrong. I tried it all together and suddenly my makeup was incredible 😅😅

Totally! It was Catrice Liquid Camouflage Concealer. Now, it was a match for my slightly tan self (and I get a little ruddy): 007 Natural rose. And I have some slightly dark under eye circles and hollow eyes. So it looked different swatched on my hand than when it was applied on my face. andI haven’t tried their lighter shades yet for my winter green self. But I’m always looking for that grey green tinge in the product photos and I thought I spotted it for some other shades. Hope that helps your Mom!!

Oh, and as it settles into the skin, (I did not use a primer) it did not pull orange for me. Instead I want to say that it got a tiny smidge darker and more of a slight yellow tan cast than it previously had which works perfectly for me.

@@darrenlaureng5473 Thank you for your explanations. That's actually great to hear, because my mom skintone has that yellowish tint. I checked the swatches online and overall, it looked quite pinkish, but I'd have to see it irl or under a good lighting to see the real undertone. Also, I noticed that their range carries a "full" yellow corrector, it may help to balance the shade. By the way, if you are really pale, have you heard about Unleashia cushion, in 21n ? I bought it and it has that greenish tint. It's very pale though, so if you have a bit of a tan, it will be too light. Still, I'm mentioning it, just in case. What an adventure for us olive people...

Yessss!!! I've been patiently waiting for these long form videos! Thanks for creating content for us brown girlies. I've learned so much about color theory and how it translates to brown skin, it has elevated my makeup skills and made me more adventurous with my makeup. Love you bestie 💜💜💜

I’ve always loved you short form content but now adore the longer one as well! It’s just nice seeing you go into much more detail on a specific topic with the time you don’t always have with shorter content

I also a beginner to makeup so when I was learning to do makeup on internet I read about skin undertones then I study that if you have neutral skin undertones then you can mix two yellow undertone and pink undertone both foundations to make your neutral undertone foundation

@makeupbymonicaa Can’t believe this is your first long-form video. With your smooth style and significant followership I assumed you’d been making these way longer. Even though I’ll probably never pursue content creation, you do give me some hope. And I love your tips! I’m pretty good at figuring out lip shades that work well for me, but face makeup has always been a little trickier because I’m on the border of neutral/olive/warm. When I saw you were talking about color theory, I thought you’d go about it a different (equally good) way, but this was so helpful! Love your pointers on setting powder, lip shades, blush… and the blue pigment! What?!!! I’ve got to look for that now.

Obviously, I'm white, but I enjoy your videos. I actually learn something rather than watching a shower routine! Everything looks orange on me, especially lipstick! Any advice?
