Thanks for watching guys. This was extremely fun to make. I know full-well making $1000 isn't as easy as this off-the-bat. It was only 4 years ago I was charging £120 a day to teach a private class and couldn't fill my calendar. I am very grateful to have had such an engaged audience to jump on the opportunity of purchasing these germ hooks now, but I had much humbler beginnings and I know for many of you wanting to start your business idea, it won't be this easy to make your first grand. Squarespace kindly agreed to work on this sponsorship project with me and I genuinely love what their platform provides for independent craftspeople. I hope you think of them and try out that free trial when you take the leap into building your website - they are incredible support for us and it's thanks to your support of them. (It will also be the easiest part of your business journey.) Thank you for your time and your viewership! See you next time, Alec

Hi Alec, this is my first comment on your page. But I have been an instant fan since the first video of yours years ago. This video is no exception, absolutely loved it! Hopefully you can tell by the vast majority of the comments, that you have a massive loyal fanbase, one that has been hard earned each step of the way. You deserve all the success you have, and will have, because you have earned every part of it. I'm from Montana, and when I saw that you were moving to the US, and then I saw the Montana flag in the back, and the Bridger mountains, I actually ran into the other room to tell my wife “Alec moved to Bozeman!!!” I immediately had to find on the map where you're at, as I know the area well. I actually was driving through there a couple months ago, and was going to stop at your shop and say hi, but it was a Sunday morning, and didn't want to bother you, and wasn't sure if anyone would be around. I feel motivated to write this comment, just to address some of the naysayers that I see on the comments for this video. I think they well illustrate what is wrong with the vast majority of the last few generations. Anyone who would criticize someone who has worked so hard, for so long, earning every follower and platform that they have, to criticize any part of that earned success,-really speaks to why so many of them will never be successful in any aspect of their life. (my thought to them is always: Well, when you work like a dog for years and build a huge platform from your blood and sweat, YOU can make YOUR videos the way YOU want!) Hopefully you don't let any of their comments, written no doubt from their parents basements, to slow your enthusiasm or your zest for life. I know it won't. Thank you again! Next time I'm through Bozeman, I'm definitely stopping to say hi!

@@garethbaus5471 Exactly. If you would count the real cost to produce and sell those hooks, and you decide to skip the cost of tools and learning... the biggest cost (EXCEEDING profits) would be getting such a promotion on Instagram that Alec can generate with his instastory in 5 mins. No mere mortal could do this. It's not hard to come up with a great product idea, it's not a problem to get it produced (I mean if you have to money to invest) - the problem is to sell it.

@@MrMartwy And something tells me Squarespace payed somewhere between 15 and 50k for a 20 minute video focusing so much on their stuff. I also highly doubt that the design of the hook wasn't established before hand. I mean, come on, he didn't really get inspired by a piece of cardboard that his dog happen to chew exactly in the shape of the product. Alec is way too smart and he's a problem solver with quite a bit of traditional blacksmith training. Having done hundreds upon hundreds of such trinkets in his younger years, he knows all about efficiency of production. I bet he came up with the idea, design, tooling and order of operation within 2 to 3 minutes. The rest is just entertainment.

I'm not sure if you are planning to make more of these (but I can hope). But if you are, two suggestions. 1)Make some with a two-finger slot. I broke my left pointer when I was younger, and it hurts like hell to use the cheap door pull I have. Usually I just use my right hand, but depending on the door and what I am carrying, that isn't always viable. I think a two finger version to split the load would help. 2) Make damascus? I'm not sure how viable this is (only being an armchair smith myself), but I'm thinking a one each of 15N20 and 1080, and then twist them both for pattern and to draw and round into the rod shape. Just a nice simple spiral damascus on these would pop. I'm not sure what that would do to the time and thus price, but I'd easily pay 3 or 4 times as much for that.

@@gazvlogs7459 probably. Sell for 30 instead of 25, find a creator on insta with 400k followers to do one advertisement for 15% per item sold. They get about 5 bucks per product along with a potential bump in followers from the plug, and the 1k$ is still achieved. The main difference is that you probably can't do it in 12 hours since you need to source someone and make a contract, but on the plus side you'll develop a customer base through this person and have a solid pick for advertisement until you're set up.
