Making a 0.8 Gallon NANO RIPARIUM

In this one we'll make a Nano Riparium! I'm sure you could consider it many other things, but I felt that “riparium” best describes what this is. For those of you who remember, I build the aquarium back in March. I tried to do a different riparium before this one, but I just wasn't feeling it, so the tank has just been sitting off to the side. With this one I wanted to go for a sort of bog/marsh look, alongside other riparian elements.
Believe it or not a lot of plants will work in this type of setting. Just look for things that like soggy/wet soil or grow in or near bodies of water in nature (i.e. marginal plants). Most aquarium plants will also do really well in a setup like this, but you will most likely have to gradually acclimate them to the open air. If you want to learn more about this topic then stay tuned. I'm working on a fairly in-depth video about it.
Anyways, enjoy this little side project and let me know what you think! For additional content like this, photos of my terrariums and animals, projects sneak peeks and more, follow me on Instagram @SerpaDesign. / serpadesign .

you got something very wrong: it is "Süßwassertang" NOT subwassertang... is reading that hard? sry, even if you just copied from an unnamed wrong source ... "Süßwasser" is the german word for fresh water and it is NOT a liverwort, it is a fern... if you did some research and also used the scientific names instead of only the common names or the trade names, you wouldn´t spread false information... your videos are very inconsistent somtimes you use scientific names, often you don´t... I know it is sometimes hard to find out the scientific name, but very often it isn´t

So I keep a few reptiles. That led me to your videos one day. I've never had even a tiny interest in building a bioactive vivarium. Now I've watched a ton of your videos and was inspired try my hand at it. I converted a 20g into a vertical viv. I have built a false bottom and the rest of my supplies show up in 2 days. I am excited to build a future home for a crested gecko. Love your videos and attention to all the small details. Keep up the amazing work!

@@SerpaDesign when I decided I needed to get a crestie so I could build her a home, I found one online who was looking for a new home. She was living in a really barren enclosure, it was so depressing to see her in it. Was a real joy to see her acclimatise to her new jungle home. She is now a happy, confident wee soul who loves hunting crickets in her new home. So you really helped to rescue her too....good job! Big love from a very cold Scotland!

ripariums typically use tropical plants because natives often require a cold period and dormancy
@PhoebusApollo360

@@Kehy_ThisNameWasAlreadyTaken I've found, with my main terrarium, that when in a glass container the plants skip the dormancy if you have enough time to let them get used to it. I am building them in England though, so that may affect things.

New subscriber! Long ago, I grew the smaller closed terrariums with success then moved away for school and my parents, against my advice, opened them up and watered them. Dead. Now, 40 years later, I have been gifted a massive glass water bottle with a spring gasket lid and thought it was time to give it a try again. I'm so excited with all the new plants I've seen on your channel! My question: Can you put orchids in a closed or narrow opening terrarium? I have over 200 orchids, some quite small, and I know they are technically "air plants", but I thought maybe if I placed them high in the bottle, they would be happy in the humidity which orchids love. Have you tried using orchids and, if so, how did it turn out? Thank you. Looking forward to many more hours of future and past videos from your channel.

I didn't know this until Rachel O'Leary left a comment to my comment about Bucephalandras, she says they're endangered in their native habitat, since that's a terrific and gorgeous vivarium/aquarium plant maybe you could do a spotlight video on them? I'm just throwing the idea out there, every time I see Bucephalandras I always think they're gorgeous and I had no clue that they're expensive because of how rare they are, and I feel like a lot of other newbies like me don't know this either. Either way this video was great, thanks for the dedication and sharing your awesome work.
