As a fellow product designer who has been watching KZfaq videos about people making stuff for pretty much his whole life. I would like you to know that these are the exact kind of videos I always hoped to find. To any young or learning designer who stumbled on this comment. Watch all of Miles’ videos. The positivity, uniqueness and wide array of techniques he shows will take you very far in the design world. Big ups Miles, keep up the amazing work🙌🏽

FINALLY!!! FI-NA-LLY! For years now I've regularly searched KZfaq for someone showing how proper, modern, durable bags and such are made, and this is the first time something shows up. Could you make or have you made a video on what kind of fabric to use and where to find it, or do you know e.g. a good book? Actually: anyone reading this please chime in 🙏 I know so little that I don't even know what to look for, but I have an eternal dream of making ADHD-friendly custom items for myself. Not least a backpack. I've looked both online and in all fabric shops in almost a 100km radius, but online there's never any information on e.g. the tensile strength of the fabric and in the rural area I'm in they only sell and know about either really dainty fabric or fabric for curtains.

I've actually put together a video on what kind of machine/fabric/tools/hardware you'll need to start making your own gear, you can find it here:- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sKydhaSC0ODYY6M.html
@Herfinnur

@@jnxmck Better late than never! I wonder why that video didn't pop up except because youtube search is broken🤬 I've bought some materials that I'm not so sure about, but they where cheap. I probably need to make a lot of mistakes anyway. I thought I could use my wife's machine, but from that video of yours, I think I might try out the foot crancked Singer standing in her family's old summer house. Her grandmother (I think) used that machine up until the 80s or 90s, so it might be in somewhat working condition Also, they are very suspicious of a man even visiting their shop, so I never feel very welcome Edit: 🤦‍♂️ you only have seven videos, I could have looked through your videos and found it instantly 🤦‍♂️

It would be really cool if you had a tour of your dad's sewing shop! I make bags as a hobby and really enjoyed seeing how you made this bag and how everything came together. I haven't personally seen anyone insert foam into a bag in the same way you did. Normally I sew my to the edges. But that does become thick when it comes time to joining pieces together. So I will have to keep this in mind and try it next time I have a bag that involves foam.

Hey Miles, I reaaaaaly love your videos, although I have not watched them all. I just wanted to say, that you live the life I want to live. We both play guitar (but you do it waaay better), we both skate and I also like to work with wood and build things. But I just start to get good doing things, and you keep going until you are a pro at it. I just found your account a few days ago, and I'm already a big fan of your work. I always just said that I am going to learn how to photograph with film, but you went and did it. You are my role model and I will keep going with all the things I mentioned until I am truly good at them, just like you!

I apprenticed as a seamstress when I was about your age (and my master carver father taught me woodworking as well)… I am thoroughly impressed. I’ve made bags before, but nothing this well executed. You are lucky to have access to dad’s shop! It always annoys me how many KZfaqrs seem to have access to all the best tools and materials, while I’m over here scraping through trash and using hand-me-down tools, but I digress. I just hope you appreciate what you have. And I will subscribe and appreciate what you do with it! PS I didn’t know they still made film for photography!! Another skill I learned in my youth, working at a photo lab in my early 20s. Kindred soul.

I know I'm 6 months late, but for anyone contemplating making a bag like this: A lanyard knot can be better than the simple overhand knot on zipper pulls. They're a little better for grabbing when you want to pull the zipper either way. That said, the overhand knot used here is simpler to tie, so if knots are not your thing, you don't have to learn something new :)

There was a time where I was all about retaining that classic film grain look, then I found that it cost me like 150 bucks to get three rolls of film developed, they needed to be sent off to a separate lab and it took like a week to get back. When I was a kid and you could get a roll of film developed for 10 bucks in less than a day. Times have changed, and so I finally switched to digital completely. If I want something close to film grain, I just pull out the old Canon 5D.

I had this same problem with the main limiting factor being a compact bag that could fit both camera gear and my 11inch iPad. The Peak Design 6L every day carry sling was literally the only bag I could find on the market that fit my criteria. Really cool project! There is nothing more satisfying then designing a solution to fit your needs yourself. Though in my case it’s usually custom organizers and storage solutions that I 3D print.
