With the beaches closed for the unforeseeable future, I wanted to create something that would help me stay in shape for the "off season". This is a video of me making a balance board for surfing! As opposed to a traditional balance board of front to back, this one goes rail to rail. It's ideal for practicing cross stepping, nose riding and is a great tool for ankle mobility.
Below is the project source, where you can get more specific instructions on making your own!!

Shout out to Plasticvicar for the awesome idea!
If you guys decide to make one or have any other projects you'd like to share, please leave a comment below! We could all use some activities to keep us busy.
Please subscribe to my channel if you enjoyed this video, I make content every week on surfing, skating and stoking on the small stuff. It's been difficult to figure out content now that the world is on lockdown, but I really hope to bring some entertainment to you in these troubling times.

jake simmons getting creative! Glad it’s working out for you. My first attempt at this was a small foam roller with an old ungripped skate deck...I completely ate it 😂

Excellent work! That looks fun to try and ride. I don't surf, but I would be so bummed if they decided to close up the parks and trails around here. I have been slowly going out of my mind. Second week of being laid off and they're saying it probably won't be until April 30 when we can go back. Thankfully, I have a roof over my head and a possible job opportunity lined up, but otherwise, it's looking pretty dismal. Skateboarding has been my go-to therapy and vlogging/music has been my creative outlet. But I really hope we get this all sorted out and find a way to make life better for everyone. Keep on keeping on!

SkaterDee glad to hear you’ve got the housing and job lined up. Definitely the most important thing right now! At least we still have skating. There’s obviously a lot of negative things going on right now, but I think there will be a lot of opportunity when we make it to the other side! Best health to you, thanks for watching as always 🙏

Hey dude I got another suggestion. I noticed that your cone-work at 2:00 is really nice and it's done in more of a surf style than a slalom style, which is interesting. I was actually out in the park the other day trying to do similar stuff and i was unable to weave between the cones as closely as you did here. I noticed that you get that mini-speed-check-slide at the end of ever turn, giving that nice scrubbing sound. Maybe just some analysis of the technique or drills needed for that. I might just watch that clip a few times in slow motion now, too.

Would you say this is pretty accurate to the feeling of actual surfing? Ive never surfed in my life and its the first thing i want to do when everything opens back up so ive been practicing on a goof board and a balance board and getting pretty good. Just wondering :)

Kristin Paige hey Kristin! I would say that building ankle strength will definitely help you learn faster. To me, The feeling of surfing is that feeling of going fast, being free and dealing with unpredictability. This won’t replicate it but it will make you better doing it
