Bunny specialist here the pink part of the ear is real! It’s the inner part where there’s no hair and is just skin it’s also filled with a ton of blood vessels making it look very pinkish. Dying the shredded coconut pink for that part is brilliant and I’m going to make this for sure. Thank you it’s precious. 💖🐰

It's especially noticeable if the bunny or other animal has white ears. Right now I have a cat who had very pink ears and nose when she came to us. So, her name is Pink!😊 As she grew up the pink is less noticeable but still there.😊❤❤

Was in old Baker’s Coconut General Foods cookbook published in early 1960’s. My Dad was a District Manager For General Foods (only job he ever had after college 1951-1984). I am eternally grateful for GF’s recognition of Dad’s hard work, dedication and for providing food on our table for those years plus the following 33 years of retirement. I still have cookbook. General Foods also gave out pamphlet with few ideas including this one and nest eggs as grocery store give away. Great to see folks still enjoying 6 decades later.

My kids and I have made this cake every year since my oldest was 4 months old (obviously she didn’t do much then). This weekend, we will make this cake for the last time before our first born moves away for college. 18 years ago I was just trying to figure things out and deciding what kind of mom I wanted to be. My “babies” are 18 and 13, but they won’t let Easter pass without the bunny cake. It has been so much fun to watch as their creativity has changed over the years. Our bunny has had a Mohawk, a pierced nose, crazy “makeup”, silly bow ties, and a million other things. ❤

My grandmother( mother of 10 ,grandmother of 27, born in 1915 and lived to be 96) used to decorate cakes and sell them as a living on the side for over forty years. I remember her making easter bunny cakes like this when I was a child in the 1960's. You did a wonderful job! 😊

My grandmother used the thin red licorice rope for whiskers. Black licorice rope to make the mouth. I remember jelly beans decorating the bow tie. She also cut a small curve out of the bottom of the ear for them to look like the were actually attached to the head.

When I was young I made that cake with my Mom. When I was a teenager my cheerleading squad had a bake sale. The only thing I knew to bake was the bunny cake, but it wasn't Easter time. So I turned it into a flower. I used the "bow tie" as the stem, the "ears" as the leaves and I had a flower. Btw, this was long before the Internet. Happy memories. Thanks for the nostalgic moment. May your days be blessed.
