These things are the opposite of printers. Where the ink is what gets you. Companies charge $200 for a handle then $10 for the insert. I think this is going on my project list!

Cool! Now do one to accept the circle inserts. Then send them to me for testing purposes. 😀😀

Thanks for this. I've been watching a bunch of these make your own carbide tool videos. This is one of the better ones. I appreciate the link to the inserts you used, it's easy to get overwhelmed looking at all the different choices on amazon, even more so for Canadians! Trying to figure out if you purposely put a rough final finish on the bar to give the epoxy more grip? It's certainly what I'd be doing.

Nice build! Why did you switch bits halfway through making the rod round? (metalworking newb over here)

Carbide doesn't do well with an interrupted cut so I used High speed steel to get it round and then swapped to the carbide. Thanks for watching bob!

Looks great! Do most lathe tools have epoxied handles? I've noted all of my files have press fit handles (which I have pulled off on occasion, pulling the wrong way with the file). It seems that with a replaceable tip that epoxy is the way to go!

Make a tool to make a tool. That could make for cool marketing, every gouge is made using the gouge made before it.

Looks good! Am I correct that you use a carbide insert tool on the metal lathe for the metal part of the handle, then another one on the wood lathe? Wait then did you make another handle with the new tool! Toolception?
