a timelapse making some owl wall hanger chainsaw carvings.
they did turn out a little bit dark here and there but that can always be fixed quite easily with a wire brush.
the wood i used is white oak, the oil mix is my own concoction, there is a video on my channel how i made this if anyone is interested.
enjoy.

One day I would love to learn how to carve with a saw. This is truly amazing work my friend. You rock!

Hi John, i feel anyone can learn to do this, when i started i made the first couple of things with a normal bar, after a while i upgraded to a quarter tip cannon bar but still used 3/8LP chains because i couldnt find a 1/4 sprocket for the saw i used. still have this bar today on one of the echo saws, i do run a 1/4 pitch chain on it now. expensive bars but they last really long. ive used cheap chinese bars as well in the past, in the end the cannon bar outlasts them many times over. i only buy quality bars these days for carving but for a beginner the cheap ones are fine in my oppinion. One can always get a quality bar after ofcourse. there are some little 25cc zenoah clones out there as well, for these saws a 1/4 sprocket exists, i used these saws for some years as well but they do vibrate more. paired with gloves that have anti vibration function i could use them all day, but without i would get tingly fingers after an hour or 2. I have seen them on ebay as well with a 1/4 pitch sprocket already on there and they come with a chinesium carving bar as well. for the detail work id say they do fine, i still have one around but i dont really use it anymore. probably time to sell it. I appreciate the compliments as always! thanks for checking out the video. if u have any more questions about the carving stuff ill be happy to help. Take care!

Nice work and presentation, fortunate to own one of these….imagine you have to sharpen chains a bit. Def have a recognized style as well. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Mr WP ☺. i was seeing how fast i could go on the chainsaw part of this kind of carving, i dont particularly like this kind of production style of carving but i did need a few more of these. as they sell pretty well. takes about 7-8 minutes to rough it out apperantly, 2 of them on 1 tank of gas. I dont mean to flex haha, i prefer to take my time, suppose at least it leaves more time for other things.. The Sharpening is alright if i can use clean wood, as long as there isnt much sand in the bark and i dont hit the jawhorse at least. i can sharpen these short chains pretty fast and generally its just a few strokes with a handfile to get a crisp edge back on the teeth. so yeah if i wanted to i could probably squeeze out 3 or 4 per hour. but there isnt much fun in that.. feels like selling out to me. Thanks for checking it out! and i hope the farmlife is treating you good. Take care!

Thank you! i tend to leave a bit more meat on the first cut when milling for these wallhangers. i should really try some other birds like this as well. Glad you like them!

@@MathieusChainsawCarvings yep that’s cool I try use up my slab as well going to use some as bench seats for rustic picnic tables but intend to do some artwork as well. I hate seeing waste

@@rusticmania6531 Same here, i dont like to waste too much wood, i have had a lot of pieces from years ago when i didnt know what to use the cutoffs etc for but i always kept them. glad i kept them. when i got back into carving a bit more seriously i had a lot of nice dry pieces for wallhangers and such. I have made some furniture too but mostly for myself. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eMdhpJSesN-0pWw.html Made a few benches like in this video as well. really cool video, maybe you will like it. Take care.

Hi Mathieu !... I love you're so versatile with the subjects...and multiple of the same item can be a drag but if inventory is needed..you do what is needed... Are there forms you're not fond of doing ?...I think you could handle them all... So quick and you know what you're doing with each cut...you must have been doing this for years...each new carve is impressive... Keep doing what you need to...I'll share to my FB page...you deserve more veiwers...have a great rest of the week !...🌿🌿🌿

Hey Pamela, how are you doing? :) its really not so much about not liking to make the same thing a bunch of times, more that u can do better if u spend twice the time. although it is more fun to just mix it up and try different/new things. lining up wood like this to spam some sculptures is not something i generally do. but it does leave more time for other things and it is more efficiënt....compromising... evil word to me that 1.. the markets i go to people would rather have the stuff a little cheaper so yea u get what u pay for. id prefer to make them a little nicer but i have learned that that does not pay off :). one would probably sell more but cutting yourself short in the process so yea like u say i have to do it. probably a good reason to not do this full time. i think it would take all the fun out of it. Appreciate your kind words as always, thank you for sharing it on facebook as well,.. id say u dont have to but i assume you know that. I do get a lot of satisfaction from these comments on here. so keep m comming haha.. Thanks again for the support! And dont forget to have a great rest of the week yourself!

Hey Mathieu Love your work! Awesome owls brother! I just started chainsaw carving. The journey has begun! What type of wood are you using on the owls? Thank you Bob
@MathieusChainsawCarvings
@MathieusChainsawCarvings Жыл бұрын
Hi Bob!, thanks a lot man, glad you like them. Cool to hear you have started chainsaw carving. In this video i use White oak. U can use any wood for the wallhangers, i do prefer the harder species, like oak ,cherry or wallnut. the harder wood works nicer for the details. Good luck with the journey, Hope you have a lot of fun carving man, Take care!

if u can get alder wood thats probably a real nice choice too for beginners thinking about it a bit more. really depends a lot where you are located as well. try and use whatever u can get for free :). good luck man! all the best.
