Making A Custom Parametric 3D Accent Wall And Desk | CNC Router

2 жыл бұрынWhat first starts as a pile of 4'x10' maple plywood sheets incredibly transforms into a multi-dimensional, parametric wall consisting of hundreds of layers, 289 panels to be exact. This video demonstrates that with a creative, yet simple idea, a CNC router becomes a useful asset in the construction of what seems like a complex build. The wave-like shapes cut out by the SmartShop® M then create an aesthetic, 3D accent wall measuring 40' wide and 103" tall with a matching desk, giving the space they reside in a unique feel of movement. The 130" wide built-in benches were the final element to conclude the structure was the perfect custom piece for a modern reception area.

Jack from Jack's Woodworking Designs did it! Edgebanding the front edge before installation took 8-10 days. It was almost 1 mile worth of edge banding!

Classical Grasshopper parametric exercise done with surfaces and contour lines. I've done many of these. However the ASSEMBLY and the construction is very revealing. This speaks much more than just an exercise of profiling curves. Good illustration.

Wow that is super cool! How many hours/days did this take to cut out?

The cutting alone took 7 days (8 hour days) and the installation itself took 5 days.

i dont see any plywood edge lines, did you apply edge veneers after the cuts? and just a guess based on my prices $100,000 in plywood alone? truly amazing work and impressive speed for cutting 600IPM is about the maximum stable speed across axis' on my machine. i can get upto 1000IPM on the x axis but on the Y axis if i go faster than 600IPM i get ball screw whipping.

Hello! You are correct, PVC edge banding was applied with contact cement. The contact cement comes right off the pre-finished material with a little rubbing using some thinner without the pre-finished coating getting ruined. Plywood material was about $40,000!

What did you guys use to come up with the primitive shape for before slicing? I want to find a primitive simulation tool that’s easier to create organic shapes rather then doing mesh modeling in f360.

The design for this prject was done in Fusion 360: Grasshopper, then programmed into Vcarve Pro.
